2 lights on one outlet

D00ds

I would like to keep both my 1000w an my 600w on one circuit. I would like to just plug them in on one outlet. I will be running them continously..so when one goes off..the other goes on.

How do I safely do this?

What do I need... I have two walmart timers...is this enough? Can I safely put them on a surge protector?

Do I really need a flip, because they are two different wattages?

Should I just put the 600 the other circuit?

Thanks

TPM

They are 15 amp circuits btw.

Just to be safe I would put them on 2 separate circuits. Because if you put them on one and your breaker doesn't kick, you have a chance at your wires super heating in your wall. (Fire hazard). You may be fine, but as a safety factor I would. The different wattage doesn't mean much, the combined amount of power being drawn is the factor. If you absolutely had to, a surge protector + your timers would be sufficient. But in the long run just take the safe path and designate 1-2 circuits for each 1000 watts of lights, and 1 additional circuits for your pumps/fans/humidifier.

Hope I could help, happy growing.

You want to run only one at a time? That would work fine. having both of em on at the same time you're looking at about 14~ amps so that wouldn't be wise. I'd invest in some better timers though, I've only ever seen crappy 2 pronged ones at wal mart. Home depot/lowes carries a nice one that i've been using for a few years now with no problem i forget the brand but it's white and blue and has 2 outlets on it.

Also, at walmart there's a 35$ light timer with 3 sockets on. 6 modes and it's digital. If you do what he says ^ take it into consideration.

Iblaze...the timer have 3 outlet but what is the tungsten capacity? With a 1000w and a 600w its about 1600w and like 15A ! The more powerfull timer I found is this one and it can take that charge...

I just looked it up, you'd need 2 separate timers if you used the walmart one. Capacity is too low, the one you linked though will be sufficient, but it would still be on one circuit.

May I first ask how many amps the circuit is? 20 amps and your good. I actually find it kinda overkill to run or use an existing new circuit. I tend to run a little more than you so I pulled a dedicated 30amp 220v circuit. Also, a flip only powers the same wattage bulb. you cant hot flip 1000 to a 600. you could flip both to another area and run both 24/7 (2 photoperiods) but that is whole nother story. May I ask why you are running 1 at a time and what the time intervals are? is this 1 area or 2?

easiest thing to do is buy two timers, since you need the timers to be exact so that the lights aren't on at the same time you should go to home depot or something and get two digital timers for about 30 dollars each. mechanical timers are not accurate enough.

i have been using these 30 dollar hardware store digital timers for years on all my lights and air conditioners too.
