with the phosphor coating, it would limit light. You would need 10-12 of them for anything mediocre since they consume 8W each. Output wattage is probably less due to heat losses.
Not worth it for growing IMO. Too expensive and impractical when you have the LED alternatives. |

You'd be better off spending that 150$ you'll need on a better LED set up. Or save for another few weeks and get something that will last you in the long run, growing is addictive and you'll always want bigger better equipment.

If he's lucky, ^ He would need like 20 lights. Which ='s 200$ which could potentially buy him a whole used LED set up off Craigslist.

If you like the idea of LED's but just want to dip one foot in the pool, this is awesome supplemental lighting with CFL's. Also bulbs of this type cost about 2-3$ a Watt where as LED pannels worth a damn cost upwards of 5$ to 7$ and even up to 10$ a Watt. I might modify my UFO with Y-splitters and a LED few bulbs soon.

Don't knock 'em till you try them, or atleast know how they perform.
I will try and start a LED bulb journal in 2012 to raise awarness on them!
