Alien Double Dog

Helloooo. Gots me seven Alien Double Dog at 3 weeks from seed. I grow in a small cab with 78 watts CFL in veg and 150w HPS in flower.

Thanks to red spaghetti, festivus and House of Loves Seed Company for allowing me to test their gear. I'd show you their nice card but I received the seeds before cards were finished. Thanks for the quick ship, guys.

I received 11 seeds and germed via wet paper towel. 7 of 11 cracked in 24 hours so I planted all 11. Next time I'll soak em before putting them in a towel or planting. The 4 non starters are still in soil in case they decide to dance.

I bought an off brand of pro mix (Bonnie) and the seedlings didn't like it very much. I've been careful not to over water but they still look like cocktail umbrellas. A few are starting to grow out of it so they'll be fine in the next week to 10 days. A little bit of burn or def on the bottom node of two plants, otherwise they're mean and green. Half strength nutes atm, Floranova Grow and supplements. I tweaked pH from 6.2 to 6.8, looking for the best spot but they're still frowning.

I plan to flower between Oct 26 and Halloween, should be ready to chop ~first week of 2012. That'll make em ~5 to 6 weeks from seed when flipped to 12/12. Due to the low light in veg they'll be a little small for their age but hopefully they'll pre flower by then. I may SCROG, depending on female count. I'd prefer to SOG w/ 18 half-gallon soda bottles and rooted cuts but I'm not sure how tall they'll get in flower. I have roughly 32" headroom and the bottles are ~8" tall. That leaves about 2 feet or less headroom for plants.

Anybody familiar with the stretch is invited to recommend sog or scrog depending on the cab limitations... thank you(s) in advance.

Here's a teaser pic. I'll get better shots at week 4, should be out of their shock by then. 3 oz. cups atm, will prolly transplant in the next few days. Thanks for looking.

Seed Buyers Beware! Don't waste your money on hype. If you have to buy multiple seed packs to find that "keeper", you're getting ripped off. Every female in a pack of seeds should be a keeper! We've been led to believe that lots of variation in a cross is a good thing, because some vendors would rather you buy several packs of their gear, instead of them actually doing the selections to fix that nag champa or golden clit trait themselves. For hobby growers, pheno hunting is fun. But mono-croppers who grow to pay the bills prefer a consistent product that regularly delivers the desired trait package.

Tagged. I see you lookin into stretch early in the game lol j/k
Don't know about the mix you are using but I ph my promix bx at 5.8 for best results. Had problems above 6 going in. I was told to treat it like hydro.

Hello festi and rasputin! Thanks for tagging along, guys.

Hey, Galahad. I'll give it a try w/o the added lime. Most of the soil less mixes I've tried average ~5.8. I get pretty severe Mg defs in late veg and/or early flower, depending how long I veg.

But I've seen your grows and know you're a great gardener. If I get those symptoms again I can always add lime after the fact. Thanks for your input.

Here's a cutting from the current strain in flower. Doesn't appear to have the same symptoms. I love the anomalies which I haven't a f'n clue, lol.

Thanks for the complement Disco. I miss my garden
I was having to add a little cal/mag with some of my DGS strains. With the pro mix bx I used it stra8 from the bag. Even reused it 3 times with out any amendments. I learned a thing or two from trial and error A lot has to do with your water quality, medium and nute formula imho. There are a few ph charts out there that contradict each other
I wonder how those would respond to topping and training. You are killing it with your Arctic Storm

Thanks Forest20, I'm keeping an eye yours. Trying to learn with the best.

Galahad, you're most welcome. I hate to see things on the skids atm. Best wishes getting back to true form asap.

I've had to use a bit of calmag and pk booster with the plant in flower. I'm also a true believer in trial and error. Your pics don't lie, even if they're not available atm.

I know what you mean about the charts. I've seen two that don't seem to jibe. My tap is ~15ppm, mostly water softener. Looks like blue salt when I drain the water heater. There's a spring up the street and it's ~5ppm, slightly acidic. Might just do the trick.

Based on Forest20's grow I might scrog. Topping and LST would be good too. In fact, it might be better because the current scrog is a bit busy. I always remind myself to cull excess, actually doing it is another story. Milhouse was getting some righteous colas w/o all the fluff, LST might mimic his training better. Thanks for the kind words.

Of course I'd contrast my grows with yours but they're sooo much bigger.
