Crashin' on the Couch at the House of Love: Test Grows with B.
Welcome to my latest project! I’ll be using my new veg cabinet to find some females in these new packs of seeds. Much thanks & respect to Festivus & redspaghetti for the opportunity to try out their beans. Given my space limitations, I’ll be working on these strains a couple at a time. First up is Casey’s Dream & Casey’s Queen (someone correct me if I’m wrong about that name change). This is the only sexually mature plant I have at the moment. She came from a batch of 4 seeds. They all germinated within 36 hours, but 3 turned out to be males. This plant is now flowering as part of this grow: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread....71#post4610671 For the most part I’ll be updating this plant in that thread, but I wanted to take her out and show her off a bit before she gets too big & awkward. She’s about 10 days in or so. She’s been trained to fit a very specific gap in the canopy of my current grow and she hasn’t skipped a beat. She was put in amongst a bunch of larger plants that were already a month into flowering, so once they’ve been harvested she can bask in the 600’s glory all by herself. This is my new veg space where most of the action will take place. It’s 19” deep & 47” wide. There are two trays, each of which can hold (6) square 1-gallon containers with plenty of room between plants for vegging larger plants. My usual routine after rooting is 3 weeks in cups & 3 weeks in 1-gallon containers, so hopefully I can mange to pull of that whole 6 week period in this space. The bottom has a bucket for the drain to waste trays & a reservoir for the drip system. Right now there’s only one T5 in there because I can’t fit two side by side. In about three weeks I’ll be finishing up a small LED grow & the 126 watt LED fixture I’m using will be put in this cabinet. It’ll fit veeery nicely beside the T5 until I can scrape up the cash for a second LED. Here are the current residents. There are (5) Casey’s Queen from seed, (3) Casey’s Dream from seed, and (4) cuts from the confirmed female that’s flowering right now. The clones are struggling because I went out of town for a few days. They weren’t looking so hot when I got home, but they’re already bouncing back. All the plants from seed are doing great. This is the lineup of Casey’s Queen. They aren’t much to look at yet, but give them a few months and they’ll be killin’ it! The lineup of Casey’s Dream is a little smaller, but I also dedicated some space to the cuts of the same strain. I’m not in the market for any studs right now, but I really like CD #3, so I hope it’s a gal. F/1.2. . . always a unique perspective. |

Thanks for stopping by! If you have any experience with Casey Jones, Blue Dream or Killer Queen, be sure to give me the scoop. . . I've never grown any of them before. I'm expecting quite a bit of stretch with the Casey's Dream, but other than that I don't know much.

Looking forward to seeing this grow progress. It looks like you're the first to post Casey's Dream test grow pics Great work on the veg cab! Subbed!!

Seed Buyers Beware! Don't waste your money on hype. If you have to buy multiple seed packs to find that "keeper", you're getting ripped off. Every female in a pack of seeds should be a keeper! We've been led to believe that lots of variation in a cross is a good thing, because some vendors would rather you buy several packs of their gear, instead of them actually doing the selections to fix that nag champa or golden clit trait themselves. For hobby growers, pheno hunting is fun. But mono-croppers who grow to pay the bills prefer a consistent product that regularly delivers the desired trait package. |

Damn, B! You're inspiring me with that veg cab! I thought running veg and flower in one cab would be a convenience but so far it's been nothing but a pain in my ass! I think next weekend has a veg cab project in store for me. I'll be keeping an eye on that Casey's Queen, can't wait to see how those little buggers turns out.

A solid plywood back is the single biggest improvement you can make. It will give your cabinet structure once all the partitions & shelves are gone. The fact that Home Depot will rip a 4x8 sheet of plywood for you should make your job a lot easier. If you go in with the measurements for the piece you need, when you leave the store you should have a back that's perfectly cut to shape with a couple scraps pieces. After that just take the fiber board backing off, attach the back in way that's sturdy, take the partitions out, slap some primer & paint on it, and that's pretty much it. You'll love having a dedicated veg setup that allows you to veg plants to a decent height. I just hooked up my drip system yesterday & filled up the reservoir for the first time. I'm going out of town for a couple days pretty soon & for the first time since leaving CA I don't have to worry about my tiny starter containers going dry on me. I have (12) 1/2 GPH drippers , so as long as I don't get greedy & try to fit more than that in there at any given time I should be able to leave for a day or two at a time with no problems. Good luck. . |
