Golden Tiger and Malawi vertical grow

hey hoot i bet you are ecstatic about your harvest.

"Range of density’s again in the buds depending on light but all look tasty!

Really notice the difference in how the plants preform under the 600w, 400w, and 250w in same room."

can you please explain this further? i cant go past the 250 for indoors. got 2 gt's popping now, been wondering whether it would be a waste doing any sativa/hazes under the 250?

cheers

Hey Hoots dunno if you saw my PM,
but can you give me a little comparison between the Malawi and Panamas.
Green Panama obviously s different.
What can you say about the others in terms of yeild, vigour, flowering time and high (;

with the gt there are some shorter pheno's but they all need allot of light, and i don't see a 250 doing it bro. stick with a hybrid like the satori. good luck !

Hows it going Mr Fecund?

The thing that interested me most about the different strength of lights was how much more vibrant the plants became as they moved under stronger lights. But even the 600w is nothing compared to the Spanish sun which I suspect is also nothing like African/SE Asian sun either.

The plants that finished quicker got the best light in this grow, the later ones got better light as the earlier flowerers left. From my wee grow I would say that the Malawi would be happiest under least light. The seed malawis got the 600w which they loved but cuttings for seeds were done under the 250w and they smell and smoke and are just as tight as the mothers. The green panama and the more thai GTs clearly wanted as much light as they could get. A malawi pheno GT cutting was also done under the 250W and did lovely to.

Grandmaster B suggests Satori but as a matter of interest I grew out a Mandala#1 seed I had left early on in the grow. 3 weeks veg and 9 weeks flowering under the edge of the 250w gave a quite loose buds of a pleasant smoke( 1 oz in all). Mandala#1 is rated by the breeders as needing less light than the Satori. My two most thai golden tigers GT4 and GT6 got a bit more of the 250w than the Mandala did on some buds and a LOT less on others.

GT4 has weighed in at 5oz, and although the buds are loose where they didn't get the light as much, it's mainly all resinous calyx. The smoke is in a different league altogether:)

But I know just how amazing they all would have been with stronger light, but have faith Mr Fecund, you will not be disappointed!

Hi g0vnaa,

Apologies for not getting back to you, it's been a busy few weeks! And I am also a little overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of the smoke- in the best possible way:blowbubbles:

I'll have a wee look at my thoughts and post some comparisons and such like in the next few days.

Between the Malawi and Panama I would say the malawi is like entering into a deep dream, and the panama is like waking from one.

So more of that sort of stuff soon....

Seems quite long flowering for a panama, not sure how unusual she is. The most strongest smelling of all the sativas, my nose isn't accurate but sort of very tropical overripe fruits and bitumen/tar, don't hold me to that though!

This is the very resinous and powerful late flowering panama pheno, a good one ;) Im glad you are enjoying there :ying:

yo man, how would you compare smoking these pure sativas to say some ssh or c99? also how does it compare to some sour d? I grew out the panama, which I liked a lot, as for the high tho it reminded me a lot of some trainwreck, which I think has genes that came from panama(never heard this, just going by smell and taste and high). I wonder how these malawi and golden tigers highs compare to others Ive smoked. Panama was the first pure sativa Ive ever grown, N Id like to try others, just hard to find space and time, but malawi is something that has always interested me.

No worries:) good to de encouraged. Nothing worse than a grow without a finale.

Those colas look absolutely spanking, and I'm sure they will smoke like it too. Roll on the next lot!

Hi twatticusfinch, every plant has been amazing to take apart, such lovely lovely buds. All have something different to offer to. I have managed to keep most as bonsai mothers and had hoped to remove a few quite quickly but they are all worth keeping! Ah well......:dance013:

Hi Dubi, glad she's likely to be a good one as she looks and smells it. In fact I am very excited by her. I pollinated her with the more thai GT male and also with some lowryder pollen.

Now she has turned out to be such a long flowerer I think the GT cross will be interesting as the GT seed male was put out in to a cold caravan with very little light having not started flowering. He then through frosts, cold days etc flowered and never showed signs of mold or PM. Wasn't able to release pollen though he did open his flowers.

Given the environment I don't think much could be said about flowering density or over all growth patterns:) but the fact he got that far really impressed me. Lots of potential to find something in their seeds that could be autoed for a chancy long finisher here? Ha , I only have a few plants and no real clue and my thoughts are endless with possibilitys, your head must be swimming Dubi given the gentics at your fingertips!

Anyway after a quick spliff she is to be harvested tonight. Will get photos up tomorrow hopefully and then will do a wee review of my thoughts and on the smokes so far. Been hard to focus on doing this but with the final lassie going tonight the way is clear:tiphat:

Hi GET MO, I have no experience of having knowingly smoked any of the strains you mention so I can't help you there I'm afraid. I'll get some thoughts up soon but I find the malawi and panama quite different smokes but both very good!

Photos tomorrow, I'm off to get sticky:jump:

Hey Zanddar, your right there!

Loving your panamas:)

So the last of the original ACE seed mothers has gone to the happy growing ground:tiphat:

And after 3 weeks under T5s vegging and 20 weeks of flowering here she is...

And from above,
picture.php

Just amazing, fruity tarry but so fresh smelling and very sticky!

Been hard to tell when to take her, having the lights decrease over the last month probably would have evened her out but she finally started to turn her resin in the freshest flowers, some of the earlier flowers are very done so there will be a good range of smokes to be had here.

Love the way they form buds,

Lots of long buds, nothing to trim really as every leaf was covered in resin,

What a beauty!

Can't wait to smoke her, ACE genetics are a force to be reckoned with:thank you:

Totally enjoyed the grow and every minute was worth it, I seem to have spent the whole of the last month harvesting sticky resiny MASSIVE flowers. Its what I see when I close my eyes to sleep at night. All were happy to grow and be cared for, and with a little more awareness of their needs on my part more could easily have come from them. Thanks again ACE for making these experiences available to people:tiphat:

Just a couple of pictures for interest of the southeast asian landrace that has grown along side them. She went a bit crazy after repotting into 20l at 11 weeks flowering, but finally looks like most of her will finish in the next week or two.

Interesting talons,

And a last picture of the Green panama cutting that is just getting into flower. She will get the 600w for the whole grow and already is bigger than the mother was at this point so should be good!

That looks decent.I always wondered about the amount of leaf, but looks like there is no trim to be had.
Yes it does look nice and greasy.Yummy

My DBL Thai I have to do would be more airy than this right?
The GT is on my list to do.
Always seeking those sativa thrills. :)

Hey Zanddar, yummy's the word.

Had a wee try of a tiny bud that was dried quick. Really tasty and very potent. Wish I had quick dried a bigger bit!. Really happy with her:)

Damn, Hoots! :respect: What a great bud porn going on the last pages!!! :woohoo:

Cheers sativagrower87, an embarrasment of riches!

Funny as well as I don't like to mess with the lights or take them out of the growrrom if I can avoid it so my first look at them under more natural light is as the come out to be harvested. So lovely to see them in all their glory. Great plants:)

So it is fair to say that I have been avoiding describing the smokes for these plants for one simple reason.

They are so beyond anything I have smoked before!!!!!!

I like powerful smokes. I have a very high standard for the quality of smoke that I enjoy. Living in Scotland means that only rarely have I smoked imported hash/ganja that has hit the spot fully. A trip to Morroco almost 20 years ago and odd adventures elsewhere has given me the opportunity to smoke some very occasional but very satisfying smokes. And also very occasionally some unidentifiable home grown, probably dutch hybrid of one sort or another has passed my way.

And in recent years some of the worst pretend hashish that I could imagine seeing, along with horrendously expensive 'pollan' that smoked no better than average quality imported from even 10 years ago.

In other words I have very high standards but rarely have I been able to entertain them and in the end love my smoke so have had to smoke what I can find and dream of visiting some traditional growing areas for the taste of something proper.

This changed with my first proper grow last year. I grew some indica/sativa hybrids and some Himalayan landraces. Loved the landraces, completly impratical indoors but worth every minute of growing them. Most were males and I ended up with one very wild female(the seeds had come from a wild stand).

The sativa/indicas were very potent, really enjoyed smoking them but something wasn't quite right. The wild landrace smoked as an almost pure CBD plant that wasn't my cup of tea at all but smoked alongside the hybrids she was to remove the static buzz of the THC high. That was my understanding at the time. I can now see that while she may have been a high CBD, she was also pure sativa and the static buzz that she removed from the hybrids was from the indica. Smoking ACE's pure sativas has been a revelation to me.

I wanted to grow these plants as I had heard great things about ACE, have wanted to smoke malawi since along time ago , and wanted to try my hand at long flowering plants and more importantly to smoke and compare pure SATIVA.

Very glad that I was talked out of doing vertical at the beginning as for all its advantages I hadn't really tackled it properly and I can't imagine how that would have progressed seeing how the plants ended up!

Scrogged worked like a dream. Sativa stretch just isn't a problem at all. I build the frame on the pot using fencing wire and with care it is possible to transplant with the frame attached. I also tie on top of the frame rather than running underneath. Some disadvantages doing this but it means that long branches can be layered over the top keeping budding points clear in the interlacing. Fun taking them apart!

Used a good MP compost mixed with fish, blood and bone and extra bonemeal. Also added was worm castings and that was that. They were all in 20l pots by end. Fed with Biobizz grow and bloom strongest was for malawis at 1ml grow per L and 3ml bloom per l. So not strong even at that. They also got an occasional feed of liquid comfrey and once or twice when they looked like they needed it a drink from the barrel outside(nettles, comfrey, shite and stuff)- to smelly for indoors really but plants love it.

The Malawi and malawish GT's suffered from underfeeding in flowering due to me being very nervous about feeding at all. If I had fed from earlier, still with small amounts this wouldn't have been a problem I don't think. The more thai GT's never had a problem and had very low levels of food all the way through.

Can't believe how many plants were crammed in the early stages with cuttings from outside and a few others i was trying. Although the sativas got top billing they would have suffered for this a little. Having three lights at different strengths will have changed results between plants so they all with better earlier feeding and more space and individual attention could have produced so much more. Which is incredible given what they did do:)

Post this and then a review of each plant...

MALAWI

Wanted to smoke this for years and now I've loads!:jump:

Beautiful plants , very vigorous and healthy and really branchy so excellent for the scrog. Most plants had 7 weeks veg staring at 14 hrs light slowly reducing to 12/12

First harvested was Malawi2,
picture.php

Was a up a week later than Malawi1. For this reason Malawi2 got less light at the beginning but started to catch up quick and went into flowering quicker. From this early stage she went under the 600w and stayed there for the duration. A cutting of her flowered under 250w and did very well to.

Potted her into her final pot a little early so mid way through flowering she suffered worst of all from not enough feed, recovered by the end it didn't seem to slow down flower production!

6weeks veg followed by 11 weeks flowering.

By this time she had come out of the shadow of her sister and I could see some of her potential. Big calyxs and LOTS of resin. She created a large mish-mash of buds, some long some squat and all very resinous.

Approx weight(scales not great just for comparison) 6oz:)

Very little leaf at all, dried buds are very sticky, skinning up leaves wads of black finger hash behind. Really raw oily smells and flavours, perhaps metholated melon? Unmistakable! Very dense buds, not to disimiler to GT5's buds.

Burns lovely, taste and rawness more like pure resin. Can feel the effects starting in the mouth, tingling like acid. IMMEDIATELY engulfed evenly from head to toe in a giant wave of calm power, very centered and all consuming, like entering into a deep dream where the world turns slowly at your command. No buzz or static just powerfull tidal currents shifting space and emotion. Effortless drifting and gazing, just as easy to get up and move. Dancing to some of my favorite dub is excellent- nothing faster though as this is deep dreaming, no need to rush ANYTHING!!!!!

What amazes me is just how clear the high is. From what i gather the malawi is one the least 'clear' of the ACE sativas so I can only wonder at something like the double thai:)

Can be smoked heavily without fear of topping out or in little amounts to give gorgeous body to day. No problems next day but effects linger and give lovely calm assurance to general emotional state, very cool:smoker:

I work on my own in what is considered a traditionally dangerous job. It usually takes more than a smoke and a my own head to bring on the fear! I would say though that ACE's warning stands with some of these sativas. They shift our awareness in a very complete way. If you are inclined to worry or have trouble letting go a little then approach with caution! However friends more inclined that way have all enjoyed the smoke and found it powerfull but friendly- i would agree 100%- no fear needed just respect:)

Think she will be lovely in crosses, no matter what is being smoked she cuts through it and leaves her very individual expression in the room. A keeper!

Malawi1 next...

Malawi1, one of the first to germinate out of them all and impressive from the start, very branchy which I love, beautiful leaves and very vigorous growth.

Had a problem with PH at early seedling stage which affected GT's and my landrace but never bothered the malawi!. By the time malawi2 was up I had fixed this so don't know if this is a malawi trait or not.

Due to good growth and look of plant she got a preflowering pot of 6.5 ltrs and so could get bigger than others (4.5l). She then got 20l and mainly 600w(plus some 400w as she was big).

Started flowering earlier than GT's, had 7 weeks veg and 14 weeks flowering.

Most beautiful buds, long and slender and then fattening out at end. Very good resin as well, not as obvious as malawi2 but stickier in the dried bud. Smaller calyxs than ML2 buts lots of them:) Good dense buds again!

Harvested at 9oz. I suspect that with the extra week of veg and the same bigger pot up malawi2 would have been similar.

Also suffered from under feeding but even though a bigger plant she came back quicker.

Less pungent than ML2, sweeter smell, fresher and reminiscent of the aromas from some of the GT's. Very nice. Don't sniff to hard though or it will make your eyes water!

Big full smoke, very tasty. More rounded textures and aromas. Huge in chest and big high with outbreath. And that malawi wave, not as deep as malawi2 but higher more euphoric. Neither are 'giggly' but if you get on a good one they are a riot! More so with Malawi1, it tickles the heid just enough to make me smile.

The real deal- top quality ganja. Her echoes are deepening and strengthening with the cure so she will only get better.

Malawi1 is the finer smoke but I think I almost prefer Malawi2 for her rawness and deep green oceanic rhythms.

Oh she's a keeper to!

Panama red next........
