Sugar Cane Train x Chemdog - Canadian outdoors

I was fortunate to meet festivus just as House of Love was gestating and he generously gifted me some beans to try outdoors in Ontario, Canada. I've been documenting our grow in the outdoor forum but I wanted to visit the House of Love forum to report directly and express our thanks to festivus and House of love. I also expect ours is one of the only House of Love Canadian outdoor grows - at least for now!

The seeds we germed are Sugar Cane Train x Chemdog, which by my understanding should be pretty similar to House of Love's Sugar Cane Train (which is a Chemdog cross). Set me straight if I've got this wrong festivus!

We started with 7 seedlings in one garbage pail at our cedars site in early June:

They filled out quickly over the next two weeks:

..and the next two weeks:

A hot dry July took it's toll:

...but we got on top of watering and had a bit of rain:

Out of the 7 seedlings, we ended up with 5 females (!) and this is how they look now:

These are some hearty looking plants that look like they will be mature by early October. Perfect for this area - they'll likely take a light frost by then. I'll report back soon. Thanks festivus and House of Love!

Awesome brother! The original SCT was a cross of A-Train (Afghani x Trainwreck ) x Hawaiian Indica. The hawaiian was in clone-only form that I pollenated with female pollen from the a-train. I was looking at loosing the sct, as it totally rejected being feminized with coloidal silver, and out of desperation I crossed it with Chemdog. I thought maybe you had gotten the original, but since you've gotten 2 males you're obviously not growing the s1. I don't know why I didn't include the chemdog on the label.

The sct x chemdog buds look remarkably like the hawaiian indica, but the leaves are broader than the original sct cross.

Since the original sct wasn't made available to the public, I went ahead and called the sct x chemdog "Sugar Cane Train". This cross has a great high that reminds me of summertime as a kid... party time with no thought for anything but having fun. You'll notice she's got a potent stone with a balanced head/body high. The finished buds have a combination of flavors, from the unique taste of trainwreck, a sweet floral note from the affy, a tropical twist from the hawaiian and a bit of the classic "chem" flavor of the chemdog.

I really want to brag on this one, as she's about as potent as you'll find. But I think it's better to hear what you guys think rather than my personal opinion of her. She finishes in under 65 days, so you should be able to harvest her before the first frost. And I would love to see if she colors up with the cooler temps!

I'm currently curing a large amount of these seeds, and hope to have them up on the Bay in a few weeks. I'm really believe this strain will be one of our "signature lines", and I hope to one day enter it in some of the cups.

Best of luck to you 2H! Ya know I'm subbed for this one!!

Seed Buyers Beware! Don't waste your money on hype. If you have to buy multiple seed packs to find that "keeper", you're getting ripped off. Every female in a pack of seeds should be a keeper! We've been led to believe that lots of variation in a cross is a good thing, because some vendors would rather you buy several packs of their gear, instead of them actually doing the selections to fix that nag champa or golden clit trait themselves. For hobby growers, pheno hunting is fun. But mono-croppers who grow to pay the bills prefer a consistent product that regularly delivers the desired trait package.

It's so cool to be able to talk ancestry with someone who was there! You did include Chemdog on the label so it read SCT x Chemdog, and I recall the conversation about saving the SCT line by crossing in the Chemdog. So I guess this really is a test of the seed form of Sugar Cane Train. As you know, we're doing much the same thing reclaiming our clone-only Baby's Breath in seed form. I let a single male branch of SCT live so hopefully I can share a cross of these two wandering souls as well. Aloha!

Thanks folks, we're very excited to have this in our garden. We went out last Thursday to water using the water we left on site the previous Monday night. Given the hot, dry weather we have decided to water twice a week. We fill 10 liter gas cans on Monday nights at the nearby river. Each pail gets a full can and we re-fill and leave on site for daytime watering on Thursday. Last Monday, the night air was very fragrant as this garden matures. Even just in pre-flowering, the SCT is quite aromatic. It's skunky, heavy smell mingled beautifully with the Lik-M-Aid smell of our Baby's Breath.

Anyway, I got some pics Thursday and the SCT keeps getting bigger!

You can just see the SCT in the background of this pic, with two pails of our Baby's Breath in the foreground. This site has one more pail of BB (not visible) and three pails with late planted Bubba Kush clones:

Here's the magenta Baby's Breath we hope to cross with SCT pollen, on August 11:

and the mother of that plant, from September 12, 2010:

Should be a nice cross, if the SCT male pops in time!

Here's an update from August 18. The SCT is still very early in flowering but it keeps getting bigger!

It's down to around 50 degrees F at night now festivus and I see a bit of colour in the stems. They seem to love this cold Canadian light which is good because I think there will definitely be frost on the pumpkin when they come in!

Oh man, this one is going to be close!! The SCT has shown sex already, right? Once we hit the fall equanox she should kick into high gear... but will she finish in time?? I think the chances are good, as she has a relatively short flowering period.

Your girl looks really healthy, and I don't see any pest damage. I'm so looking forward to seeing her in full bloom.
