Thinking of switching from passive to active
Well currently, I grow in Smart Pots with Blumat jr's and whle it works well, its also is fairly annoying. Having to continously fill up the reservoir each day, make sure the hose is immersed, filling up the blumat and etc. My back just cant deal with mixing soil and always cleaning up the mess. While I love organic soil, I would like to keep it outside, the bugs are driving us crazy..
I am thinking of moving into aquaponics and thinking of utilizing my Smart Pots. What is the best way to do utilize aquaponics? Ebb and flow, drip or Deep Water? Also what would be a good medium for this type of growing? I built my first aeroponic cloner and think organic hydro is the route I wanna go now...

Once you go Aero you'll never look back. One secret I'll drop on ya is when you get go to buy sprayers invest in the ones with the removable spinners, the cheap spray ones will clog and frustrate you. Next dis-assemble the spinner from it's body, it pops up and out, then take a drill and drill out the size of the feed hole. This allows you to NOT run a prefilter(they clog up anyway after about 5-6 days if you run liquid karma) and the spinners won't clog either. I build my aero-looms so that each sprayer has it's own tee (PVC, I use 3/4" with an eco 1500 pump) and the sprayers are threaded into PVC caps that are removable from loom to clean. At the moment I have 3x3 trays with 9 sprayers total per tray and I run 9 girls so one sprayer per plant is what works for me. I run PBP so I'm an organic cheater, lol. Aero- organic-aquaponics, that would be a system to get dialed in and really fun to watch.
Good luck, Peace |
