Great post! Thank you for the info.I have one of the damn things-while I am not growing(I won't until I get my med license/if still allowed by then) I still find it to be a HUGE invasion or privacy

Amazing how much of OUR money the government/biz under legislation direction throws around to stop something the majority have no issue with-ludicrous if you really think about it.

Yeah a high power bill is one of the first things they look at if you are ever on their 'radar' for suspicion of growing. If you have been snitched on or they smell something near your grow, they will look up your total power usage next, then do a knock and talk, or a warrant. If i got a knock and talk these days, I would refuse to answer and tear the grow down quick. Take no chances, especially in the non-med states.

great read. i had a long talk with the tec. i was informed i have a really smart meter. it records the times and how much juice is used. would be easy to make a graph of my usage and recognise my grow usage.with time of day usage i expect my bill will go up too damnit

Take this for what it's worth;
My brother is working for a big name power provider in a non medical state and he's on the crew of guys changing out the analog meters for smart meters.
According to him, no one is sitting at a computer monitoring your usage. The only time "eyes" will look at it is if the meter is signalling a problem, such as a power outage.
That law enforcement still needs a subpena to look at your usage, same as they did for an analog meter.
That yes, the meter will show in detail when power is used, how much and for how long but that no one is scanning usage looking for 12 hour on off cycles of heavy usage.
Bottom line, if the cops are subpenaing your electric bill, they're already onto you.
The power company in my state and in the state he lives DOES NOT share information with law enforcement unless they suspect you're stealing power OR law enforcement has a subpena.
A word of warning to those bypassing their meters, the instant the smart meter is installed it will detect power being rerouted and you WILL get busted.

I don't disagree with what I quoted above.

1st of all monitoring excessive usage is an automated task, no one sits @ a computer doing that.

You did not let us know which state you live in & neither which state your bro lives in.

Just like your bro knows what's up in his state and the one you live in I on my end can assure there ARE power companies "in bed" with LEO.

One of them being LCEC in FL.
(for those who don't know: Florida is the ONLY STATE which has made state laws regarding pot worse than federal laws are!)

Just like your bro knows what's going on in the two states you guys live in I can assure you there ARE power companies in some of the remaining 48 states that do that kinda thing.
One of those states I let you know about above.

As I already stated in my original post I also have a certain background from while I lived in Florida - just like your brother has where he lives now - so after I have given you some more specific data you as well can "Take this for what it's worth".
