Pests problems. Please help me out.
My plants are in the second week of flowering and my problem is some kind of pests... I belive they are symphilids, but I`m not sure...They seem to live just under the top layer of the soil, and when I water, they come out on top and move all over the place, and even jump from one grain of earth to another :o .... They are about 1-2mm long... I have attached some macro pictures... Can you please tell me what are those pests, and what can I do to stop them bastards?
I read to use some kind of neem oil.. But I couldn`t find any in my town .. What else could I use instead? What kind of receipe of tabacco/chilli/garlic jouice can I make, and how to use it? What would be safe for the plants and efective against the pests? Another problem is that I saw some kind of worms coiling on the bottom plate, after I have wattered.. They are 3-4mm long, very slim, transparent... I`ve searched all over for this kind of pests, but I couldn`t find anything about them... Are they any harm for my plants? No pictures yet... ![]() |

Hello,
I have something like this myself-except mine are more black then white. But what I have are less then a .5mm- not to much longer then the width of a hair really. I believe them to be thrips instars but I need a better microscope. They might possible be fungus gnat larvae. But man-really get confirmation from others as well. It turns out that the problem I have is not the problem that alerted me that there was even a pest problem-I thought it was a soil/fert issue, perhaps even a pH issue. BuT I ramble, I had first noticed I had something that looked lie a spider-I jumped to the conclusion it was a spider mite. It was not. It is indeed a indigenous soil mite that just happen to be pedatory (Hypoaspis miles). Anyway, after finally ID'ing the PM, I discovered that the only reason they have to be in my grow cab is that they are eating. Eating what you may ask-well, I am thinking thrips. This is very simillar to what I see in my RS microscope (The Dopescope as I like to call it). Except mine have a darker appearence and not as translucent. I have noticed a decrease in the number of carcasses on the sticky tape but that does not give me comfort as it is coming into spring and warmer temps. Population explosions and what not. Good luck to you friend, minds_I

Hi Minds_I, thanks for replying... Your bugs seem to look like mine... But I think there`s a slight difference in the shape of the body, and the head..
I hope you get rid of your pests and enjoy your grow Hi MyNameStitch! Hey, thanks for helping me on OG a month ago, when I had some problems with my plants because of watering them with tap water Anyway, I made a tabacco cocktail and I think I`ll be using it today... Hope it will work... And no, I didn`t find any flying insects, last time I checked.. I`ll do a better check-up today, when I`ll water... BTW, how often should I use this tabacco tea? Like every watering? If you were talking to me about using the photos, sure, go ahead and use them... I have no problem with that

I have just watered... So far so good.. There wasn`t any sign of those bastards coming out on the top of the soil... I hope they enjoyed the cocktail I made
I saw just one little guy on the bottom of one plate, trying to swim out of the tabacco juice to a dry place... I`ve uploaded some pictures with it... ![]() So, how often should I use the tabacco juice to be certain there won`t be any more outbrakes like this? Any way, I`ll wait 5-6 or more days for the soil to dry, because I think I overwatered just a little bit

I confirm what Stitch said, the above pics show thrips larvae, the below pics show spider mites (of course). Thrips are small, fast-moving insects with wings. They rasp the marijuana leaves open and feed on the sap, like spider mites. Thrips prefer flowering tops, and fresh, young leaves. Attacked leaves get shiny, silvery spots, caused by the thrips sucking out the chlorophyll. You can kill them with most insecticides, pyrethine-based ones being the most effective. In perpetual gardens where total eradication is near-impossible, predatory insects such as Amblyseius cucumeris can be used. I'm not sure tobacco juice will make your day flatt. Nicotine is toxic to spider mites, but my own tobacco cures never managed to wipe them out, simply decimate their numbers. In order to get rid of spider mites permanently, more radical methods must be used. Low temperature, high humidity, everything must be set to combat them, insecticide treatments must be done almost daily for weeks. Just a question, that red, wet thing that the spider mites are sitting on; is that your tongue, flatt?

) No man, it`s not my tongue... bleahh ) Though it looks like a tongue doesn`t it? It`s just the bottom plate of my pots... They`re red... :pYou mean that if I`ll lower the temperature, and raise the humidity, it`ll be harder for them to multiply? Hmm.. I could try that... I could keep my temps to 22-23 C during daytime.. and to 19-20 during the nights... But I think I might get in trouble with bud/root rot...Hmm...

Is that the light or does your BBG look a little pale/hungry? The reason I ask is bugs will decimate an underferted plant.

I was inspecting the plants today and found this guy sitting on the bottom plate too... Is this the same kind of bug as the other one I found? Looks kinda round... I guess this is a spider mite too, right? This guy is so small you could barely see it with the naked eye
.... Well, I checked the plants from top to bottom, and didn`t find any bugs on them... I guess the pests are still in the soil... Verite: I think it`s because of the light plus that those leafs are young leafs, and the green has a yellow shade... I usually feed them once every two waterings with some NPK 7-7-7... I know I should use a high P nutrient, but I couldn`t find any... All I have is this and another one good for vegging (NPK 14-7-7)... Would it be ok to mix the tabacco juice with the nutrient and to water next time? ![]() I did see some bottom leafs dying, but I think it`s because of the big distance to the CFLs, and not getting enough light...If this continues, maybe it is some kind of nutrient deficiency.... |

the plant is pale most likley due to pest issues
damn you take good macros flatt oh np about helping you out before thats what im here for ![]() plants will also distinct overwatering after you water them good sometimes but who knows what caused that you have some pest issues and spidermites and thrips are a killer combo right now and will kill the plant faster if not controlled as for the tabbacco juice recipe you can spray them 3 or 4 times a week if nessasary what are you al using for deterants to get rid of them>? you will have to use more than one method to help get rid of them its rare to see someone get rid of them with using one method if they have a bad infestation not to mention these buggers are becoming resistant to shit thats out there now
