Change out my Res or add more water?
I am new to hydro so bare with me...... I obviously know to change my res when it comes time to flush.....
But before that, for example when I am flowering lets say I filled my 50 gallon res, and in a week there is 20 gallons left, could I just add 30 gallons with the same fertilizer formula? I have heard of people doing this(and using airstones to keep the water oxygenated) instead of completely changing out the res. What are the pros and cons of each? |

Change out the rez after every week, fill with new nutrients. You will be happy with the results you see, the more work/love you put into your garden the better. You should be using at least one small airstone to keep your water oxygenated as well. Peace
-edit, yes I have experience with this and I can tell you if you fill your shit with new nutrients you wont know what your ending up with, the plants may be eating one nutrient you keep on missing or over filling them with something the aren't. A somewhat solution is to just pour in a low dosage of nutrients or none at all and fill it back up to about 40 gallons, let them suck on that for a couple days then re-fill re-nutrient your rez. This will help the plants flush out unwanted salts and crap with low PPM solution at the end of each week when you are low on water. Hope this helps.... |

You can keep a res running on beneficials on a constant recirculating system for the whole bloom cycle, as long as there are beneficial bacteria floating around in there and thriving, and up to 3 weeks on flood and drain or other non-constant feeding recirculating systems. Rule of thumb though, check your pH after each add back of water. If your pH is staying low, or has a tendency to drop real low, even after adding back a lot of water, its time to change the res. If your pH stays within range (5.4-6.6 on constant recirc), then there is no need to dump the rez. The way I look at it is, if your girls are healthy, and your res has healthy vitals, i.e. dissolved oxygen, good temps, good pH, and ample EC, then there is no reason to waste water or nutes.
Weekly res changes are made up by the nutrient companies to sell more product, just like the oil companies came up with the 3,000 mile oil change. |

Hey Bud.
Perpetual ebb&flo here. In my veg rooms I run 10 days or more dependin on PPm, with top offs on the rez and nutes as needed. In my flower rooms generally I hav near empty barrels in 7 days. That I drain out and start over. I also run multi stage in flower. 3 50gal rez's
