You should be here looking at them with the jeweler's loupe, like me! It's a whole different experience!

On a related note... I was looking them over very carefully this morning, and I swear I saw some male preflowers on one! I think it's too early for that, isn't it? I couldn't get a picture, but it's got balls on short stalks, so I don't know what else it would be.

My experience has often been that males show before females, does that generally hold with SWT as well?

I'm happy to have a male, so if it turns out to be true I'll swap it with one of the SWT in the smaller cabinet.

I have had them show at 3 weeks from seed before but it's really early I agree, and the males almost always show before the females. Totally possible and from the looks of things you are on somewhat of an accelerated run here so I would not be too surprised!

I'm a little bummed this morning, because as I was sitting there communing with my plants the bulb suddenly blew out. That was my first time seeing it "live and in person", and it was kind of cool to see, but I don't have a replacement MH bulb.

I've known that the bulb was on the way out for a while now, so I tried to order a replacement in time, but apparently I accidentally ordered an HPS bulb instead. Dangit!

The last time I tried to veg under HPS I experienced a lot of yellowing and stretching. The plants did okay and the end product was simply wonderful, but they just never looked really great and it really bothered me. The merchant has offered to switch it for me, but that will take another week at least.

I noticed what appears to be another male. I'm not really convinced yet, because it just seems way to early to know, but I told them straight-up "I got my eye on you, man". I'll give them another week or so to see if I'm right, and in the meantime I'm gonna pop some of the backups into Smart Pots in preparation for swapping places with any males, and I'll keep the males separate for selecting a male for pollination.

Despite my distress at having the MH blow and having no replacement, I'm having a pretty fantastic morning. Just puffing on some homegrown, sitting amongst the plants, dreaming about the day that I get to do that while smoking my own Sweet harvest. I can't wait!

Sounds like an emergency trip to home depot may be in order! I hope you get the bulb situation sorted my brother, it's truly one of the various reasons I switched over to the little lite brite's but I will be the first to admit there is just nothing like a nice bright HID to get those babies rocking along fast!

I have had very good success in the past using Hortilux HPS bulbs because of the added blue spectrum but there are certainly several paths to the finish line. Wishing you continued awesome & grapefruity vibes for your very healthy salad topper makers!

Oh and about those males showing early, seriously man that's totally normal for Sweet Tooth #4 to show early like that but you just seem to be about a week ahead of schedule or so. I think that is likely because you have given them excellent conditions and they are so healthy. I like to keep track of which ones show first as they have the earliest genes if you want to impart that in any offspring.

Unfortunately, that's just not an option this close to the end of the month when finances are at their lowest. It's going to have to wait. At least I do have a Digilux HPS to use, which supposedly has extra blue spectrum. It will just have to do.

I'm about to go prep some soil and Smart Pots to swap those presumed males with a couple plants from the other cabinet. Might as well do it today, to ensure that the swapped-in plants don't fall too far behind.

They are all looking great, though! And one of those presumed males has the most enticing scents, I swear I might just make plain ol' tea out of it once it's done being a pollen donor, hehe.

Well thinking about it some extra red at this point might actually do them some good as in getting more of them sexing early so you can tell what is gonna be what male/female wise. It's not gonna hurt them that's for sure. They obviously have very well established root systems from all that blue they have been getting so far & they also seem nice & stocky so far so this might just be the will of the universe flowing in the right directions towards very grapefruity frosty goodness for you!

Everything happens for a reason & when you are engaged in the good karma flow it's somtimes best to just let go and sit back & enjoy the show.
