Conflict Research Consortium, University of Colorado, USA https://www.colorado.edu/conflict/pea...t/civilcom.htm Respectful Communication One simple way to communicate more effectively is to treat the person you are addressing respectfully--even if you do not, really, respect him or her. Exhibiting disrespect is almost never helpful, as it immediately places the listener in an adversarial, and probably hostile frame of mind, and encourages them to disregard or dispute anything that is said. This does not mean that you have to agree with everyone and hide any opposition you hold to their attitudes, beliefs, values, or positions. It simply means that you should state your differences in a way that does not belittle theirs. For instance, instead of saying "that is a really stupid way of looking at the situation," it is usually more helpful to say "well, I see the situation somewhat differently." Then you can go on to explain how you see it, without ever saying directly that they are "stupid" or even wrong, but simply that it is possible to see things in different ways. .................. Separating People from the Problem First, and most obviously, is a commitment to civility in the traditional and relatively narrow sense of the word. People need to recognize that other thoughtful and caring people have very different views on how best to address their community's many complex problems. Constructive debate needs to focus on solutions which are most likely to be successful, and not upon personal attacks leveled by adversaries against one another.

"Intolerance"
Digested from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intolerance .............................. .............................. .............................. ........ Intolerance is the lack of ability or willingness to tolerate something. ... In a social...sense, intolerance is the absence of tolerance toward (acceptance of) people with differing viewpoints. ... For example, one might define intolerance as an expressed, negative or hostile attitude toward another's views, even if no action is taken to squelch such opposing views or silence those who hold them. Tolerance, in contrast, can mean "disagreeing peaceably." Emotion is a primary factor that differentiates intolerance from respectful disagreement. Common forms of intolerance include racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, religious intolerance, and intolerance of differing political views. However, it is not limited to these forms: one can be intolerant of any ideas or anyone. Intolerance is based in prejudice, and can lead to discrimination. In its everyday form, intolerance is an attitude expressed through angry argumentation, looking down at people because of their characteristics or viewpoints, negatively portraying something due to one's own prejudice, etc. ... As the debate as to what to do about other people's intolerance continues, what is often ignored is how to recognize and deal with one's own.

Manners maketh man!
I teach my son manners and respect, reckon the world would be a better place if all kids had a few manners.
Up to him when to use them, so long as he knows what they are.

The sad part is that probably only respectful people would click this thread, while intolerant people would be too busy flaming someone in other threads
