Bankruptcy in the United States: Guess what I just found out?
Came across this awesome fact browsing the net a few days ago. I thought you guys might enjoy.
In the United States, you are not allowed to declare student loans as part of your hardship in bankruptcy court. Apparently a few Years ago (thanks headiez), the Republicans- in bed with the banking industry- snuck in last minute addendums to bankruptcy bills that disallowed anyone from claiming student loans in court. To clarify: the US has the highest cost of education in Western Civilization. You are allowed to claim credit card bills with your Lexus payments, and your 800 dollar dining bills at five star restaurants. But your education? Fuck you, pal. Deal with poverty for the selfish crime of educating yourself.

If you have to take out a loan, you cannot afford it.

Yet another length of rusty barbed wired wrapped tightly around the testicles of the middle and lower classes......

Higher Ed is just big business, happened a long time ago.
I can really only think of one discipline that isn't tied to or driven by economic interests... they're all but trades anymore (dr's, lawyers, biz execs, teachers, electricians, engineers, etc, etc.)... and a long time ago, it was recognized that mass educating everyone (in a trade) wouldn't net most of them any life-long benefit... basically, we oversell the tradesmen for the demand in work, i.e., a basic college education isn't going to earn you millions over the next guy. But education itself, colleges & universities, is big money business, e.g., look to all the o/l institutions that are driving record profits. With the novel means of enslaving the majority with debt through false promise & hope. Those that come out & found to contribute the most back into the enslaving system, might get freed of the burden, but the soul is sold in the process. They do accept MMj money at the payment line, however... |

It wasn't decades ago. Up until around 2005 I believe, you were able to get rid of student loans with ur chapter 7/11, now it is 99% impossible.
nah. 99% of the world needs to take out a loan (mortgage) to buy a house, and a shitload of students have to take out loans to get an education. Tho I'll admit if i could re-do my child hood there's no way I'd spend 200k on a college again, regardless of its reputation, unless it directly resulted in a huge ROI which in most cases it doesn't these days. dont forget that you need to build up your credit before you will ever qualify for a Mortgage. Getting loans/credit is a must if you ever want to own a home
