Tell Your Lawmakers to Support Governor's Bill 1014

Legislation seeking to reduce marijuana possession penalties has been reintroduced in the Connecticut legislature. Governor's Bill 1014 amends state law so that the adult possession of marijuana is reduced from a misdemeanor (punishable by one year in jail and a $1,000 fine) to an infraction, punishable by a nominal fine, no jail time, and no criminal record. This measure would similarly reduce penalties on the possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
On Tuesday, April 12, the Joint Committee on the Judiciary voted in favor of Governor's Bill 1014. The committee amended the measure, so that the possession of up to one-half ounce of marijuana will be punished by a civil fine only (the proposal had initially sought to decriminalize up to one ounce of marijuana).
