BICYCLING ACROSS THE US - Which States to Avoid?

Okay, so basically this summer a friend and I have a cross-country bike trip in the works. I figured I would stop by here and ask all you TD creatures..

If you were making this trip, are there any states you would avoid, and WHY?

I find that question to be a little childish, It's to broad a question with many reasons to avoid any state you ride through..

Florida and Alabama have draconian pot laws, zero tolerance in many counties and forfeiture laws, just so you know. Mississippi decriminalized small amounts.

I had bad experiences with several drivers in AZ on a Grand Canyon to Mexico ride a few years back. But then again, a-holes exist everywhere so it could have been just a run of bad luck.

If you're riding west to east you should absolutely try to hit RAGBRAI. It's always the last full week of July. I can give lots more info on it if interested. It's truly amazing and would give a nice break to the normal solitary riding you'll experience on your trip.

Best of luck. I'm super jealous. I'm sure you'll have a blast and memories of a lifetime.
