Is this orientation not normal?
More direct light will straighten them out much quicker and give them a much lower profile resulting in more nodes from a more compact growth which of course = better yield. I notice in your previous picture they were stretching with much white above the medium. This is also why many of us choose to use T5 fixtures for veg over 1k watts because you get a better growth pattern with that spectrum of light that it emits, but to take advantage of that you just need to play with the heights a bit hands on. Careful with t5's though you can still light burn your plant with them if you get too close. When I first started growing I mistook nute burn for a light burn until I found stitches guide to sick plants in the infirmary forum with a good picture. Just played with the light and saw enough growth patterns to cue it in right. I've found some stuff you can read and some stuff you just learn hands on.

Probably saying things you know, but other people read so maybe they can glean good stuff.

4' T5s for "early veg" are 10x better than HIDs IMO.

Day 5 - Germination

With half of the day gone by, and 2 sprouts above ground, I went ahead and removed the humidity dome, and then turned on the T5's; 2' (4) x 26w. They are sitting nice and comfortable in a GL 80; 2'7" x 2'7" x 5'11". They will remain on a 18/6 light schedule until flowering is induced. Fixture is positioned 12 inches above the top of the seedlings. Temperatures hover between 78 - 80F at the moment, but will gradually reduce a few degrees in the next couple of days. Watered with plain distilled/RO water.

On a side note:
Upon inspection of the remaining horde, I noticed one with a root tail poking out the bottom, but no seed head to be seen on top. Will monitor this closely.

Day 6 - Germination/Seedling stage

The 2 original sprouts now have their first set of cotyledon leaves fully opened. The stems appear to be very solid, and the leaves bright and green, so I decided to adjust the fixture to within 6" of the top of the seedlings. Also, on early day 6, the rapid rooter with the root tail poking out the bottom began to emerge through the top of the surface; hello world!. I then noticed a 4th seedling peeking through; should be surfacing in the next 24 hours. Watered again.

Day 7 - Germination/Seedling

Watering twice a day to keep the rooters moist is winding down. After the light sets on their day, I will be transplanting the above ground seedlings to CANNA coco. 4 in all will make this trip, after yesterday's peeker finally came through. I will continue to moisten the remaining horde for a few days more in hopes of another stragler or two.

This is why I said you should practice on some junk seeds. No offense, but you better find a new way to germinate seeds. People gave you advice, and you only got 4 out of 10. Those beans are fresh and germ quickly...I know from experince. Good luck with those 4. Try some straight Canna Coco next time, no need for rapid rooters. Those things dry up fast and get much warmer.

Tex, Nice thread. I'm in, too. Love Cindy and her many crosses. Galadriel is a fantastic name, makes me want to get some.

"This is why I said you should practice on some junk seeds. No offense, but you better find a new way to germinate seeds."

So aside from the heat mat, over the past year to a year and a half I have followed this method with near 100% germination rates; side stepping a few pre cracked/broken seeds, an immature seed, and a couple that did not germinate for whatever reason, so maybe like 95 - 96%, which imo, is not all that bad. How was I supposed to forsee this allowing me to switch to junk seeds? Maybe your a psychic in your grows, but unfortunate for me, I am not.
To be quite honest, I am at a total lost for exactly what caused this outcome. I am extremely hesitant to believe that the heat mat had anything to do with the outcome of this grow. Considering most people would state that an ideal situation temp in this stage be like 75 - 80F, I doubt an ambient air temp of 82.5 briefly would cause any problems; imo.
Furthermore, this grow started off and continued much like any other; aside from the germination aspect. Presoaked, planted, seen surface breaks late day 4/early day 5, couple of straglers day 6/7; including 10/10 chemdog IBL ::shrugs::

"People gave you advice, and you only got 4 out of 10."
They did, which I appreciate to the fullest, truly. But I am not sure exactly what your point is here.? I had the air temp a little to high, I adjusted, was I supposed to pull out the 'planted' seed from a rapid rooter once someone mentioned their preferred method of germination.? The wheels were already set in motion, the humidity dome off or on had little to no effect on anything, so owell, I got 4 out of 10, things happen.

"Those beans are fresh and germ quickly"
I do believe they are fresh, but is your experience speaking from the latest batch of seeds? I would be curious to know other peoples results on this 'lastest' batch, not a previous one.

I do plan on planting straight into CANNA coco next time.

Day 8 - Seedling

So if you have read this far, you know by now I only got 4 out of 10 seeds to germinate; so be it. I am not going to dwell on it and use it to rile me up, instead, I am going to move forward and be happy with what I got; sort of like life! We always want more, and seldom happy with what we got.

Drain to waste:
Transplanted into 75% CANNA coco/25% Perlite, 16oz party cups with drainage holes, and thorougly hand watered with plain water.
