GW Pharm Gets US Patent
Is this a step on the road to reclassification for all, or is it just going to make GW Pharm $$ in the US while the general population continues to suffer from prohibition?
Just last week GW received a huge license deal with another Pharma to market sativex in a few countries (see: https://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...11-703013.html) GW Pharma receives US patent for Sativex as cancer pain treatment GW Pharmaceuticals has received notice of allowance (NOA) from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent protecing the use of Sativex as a treatment for cancer pain. The patent entitled, 'Pharmaceutical Compositions for the Treatment of Pain,' covers a method of treating cancer related pain by administering a combination of the cannabinoids cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the two principal cannabinoids in Sativex. GW Pharma chairman Geoffrey Guy said the grant of this US patent covering Sativex as a treatment for cancer pain is part of a broad platform of intellectual property rights which continue to be developed by GW. "GW now has 35 patent families as well as other forms of protection such as plant variety rights and proprietary know-how," Guy said. Sativex is currently in Phase III clinical development as a treatment for cancer pain. It is approved in the UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Canada and New Zealand as a treatment of multiple sclerosis spasticity. I'm confused in the US you can't patent a plant yet they patented a plant extract how is that different than patenting the whole plant its not like they chose 1 chemical from the plant. The US gov claims that with natural cannabis it is impossible to get a "standardized dose" yet Sativex is standardized. At least this gets rid of the argument that natural cannibis isn't appropriate to use as a medicine here in the US but oh how this country loves double standards.
People in cali might want to check out how sativex is made due to your hash laws if a low boiling hydrocarbon is used the argument against butane just got weaker lol just read patent, weed for constipation relief to me thats funny as I use weed to cause constipation (along with lorpamide) |

confusion? their game!
"Monsanto also welcomed the decision, saying in a news release that it "has set a world standard in intellectual property protection." " patent rights granted to mansanto on plants (plant genes). they have been scouring the U.S. seed repository for select seed stock to patent...with a nod and wink from the govt. to boot. thank you sac beh, for peeling the onion. ...and yes, Sativex will become legal while homegrown will continue to be the bane of the human experience. link: https://www.mindfully.org/GE/2004/Mon...ase22may04.htm yeah, i know mansanto is not gw pharma, but same thing applies, big biz now can patent plants.

Turns out thier "standardized formula" is anywhere from 1/10 to 10/1 cbd to thc, if approved for us patients it has to be the least standardized prescription medication ever approved by the fda.

sounds like they're trying to get it to the stage that big pharma will be the only ones allowed to make hash/oil and peeps caught doing so will be met with harsher penalties- breaching patents, amongst other things. If they cant get you one way, they'll get you another

Schedule III,
n a category of drugs that have less potential for abuse or addiction than Schedule I or II drugs and have a useful medical purpose. Included are short-acting barbiturates and amphetamines. you would think they would have to make the plant in the same category to do this. |
