Making Sunburst 250's Remote

After much debate, i decided to just want to make my sunburst 250's remote to save a LOT of heat and weight issues.

First off, i must say - SOOOO happy i cracked these ballast open... a wire was barley attached to the switch! IDK if it was the prev owner, but im glad i noticed and if you know someone or yourself have a Sunburst, i recommend checking.

Anyway, it looks like they made it super simple for me. I just undo 4 nuts and the switch and all HPS and MH parts move with the base. Then i should just be able to cut and splice in longer wire going to the socket.

My question is what size/kind of wire should i use? It looks like they used cloth coated wire or something... can i just use reg coated?

It makes no difference to your tomato plant if the atom of nitrogen it is absorbing has come from a compost pile or a fertilizer factory. There are, however, advantages and disadvantages to each form of fertilizer, organic and inorganic. "

I done some remote ballast years back, I went and purchased metal toolboxes and cut some vent holes into it and mounted the ballast, capacitor and ignitor inside the tool box, and drilled holes for the switches and use some grommets for the extension cords coming out of the toolboxes worked out pretty well.

I used a box like the one in the link below!
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Excel-Hard...l-Box/14303646

You will be fine with 16/3 or even 14/3 gauge grounded extension cord. 2 of them one for the wall plug and one for the ballast to socket/hood. 250w lights only a few amps the reg coated wire is fine.

Much thanks! I will be using large ammo boxes cause they're free'er then toolboxes lol.

The weight and heat doing this will save is ridiculous! Now if only i could seal off the hoods to duct the lights i'd be set! Oh well... bigger fan it is lol...

This question hasnt much to do with the topic... but while i was in there it looked like my coil had an extra 3 wires coming off... Any guess to why?

Yeah more then likely its a multi tap ballast each one of those extra wires is for different voltages, such as 220v etc.... You will just ignore them and wire it up as it currently is.
