pH anomaly

I've got Columbian Gold just starting their 4th week of flower, in a 5 bucket RDWC system, with approximately 50 - 60 L of solution in the res. Nutes are the AN Connoisseur recipe, mixed in RO water supplementd with CalMag.

Last res change was to a strength of 840 ppm and pH was kept close to 5-6 - 5.9. After 5 days the solution strength stayed stable, but pH plummeted a full 1.0 or slightly more, in 24 hours. Meter was calibrated last week and the meter from my KandyKush grow confirms solution strength fluctuation. Plants seem healthy and happy and the res does not have a funky odour; any suggestions?

How are you maintaining your water line? In RDWC, as the plants uptake more water than nutrients, your pH drops and your ppms/EC rise, this is natural, and you should only replace the water that they have taken up to correct the issue. I would stay below 1.2 EC for the duration of the bloom cycle, IMO. I aim for a pH of 6.0-6.1 or so, as more acidic conditions can lend more to root rot. How do your roots look? Any pictures? Other than the nutes and CalMag, are you using any rooting additives and/or water conditioners? 840ppm is rather high, how far into bloom are you?

In my opinion, when the plants look healthy, rez changes, pH up or down, all usually tend to fuck things up worse rather than correct things. If the plant wants to be in a low pH range, then it will manipulate its surroundings to do so. As long as everything is healthy and you are providing everything in an ample ratio, ride with it...

Nice post. You answered most of my initial questions: calibration, intake, etc. Then Mr Case seemed to nail it 5x5..Watch the ladies. I kno mine are smarter than I am. First sign of a problem We (hydro) can flush and mix a new sause. Good Luck
