rose flo selecting, barra oaxaca and other projects in 2011
Hi Everyone... For those of you active on the DJ Short forums, you may know that I've been selecting a line out of Dutch Passion's Flo that I believe matches the descriptions of the rosebud flo from the 1990's. The oils of this flo line are a very true floral expression. I've spoken at length in other threads about it's scent profile, and I'll reiterate here:
- smell is apparent in early veg on the stem - stem smell is very high and joyful - stem smell is of berry, rose wine, and a dry effervescence - there is no skunk or signature cannabis scent to the plant - the stem deepens to a pine/cedar scent at some stages of veg, but never becomes syrupy or tarry in its deepness - resin smell is sweet and berry and astringent - the resin ripens to a sour lavender deepness Those are some of the signature characteristics for which I am selecting. I have many small plants that show close relationships, but a few have more syrupy sweetness, hashiness, or earthiness to the scent, and, so far, I am selecting away from them - though they still seem like very high quality plants. I am selecting for something very high and subtle, so those little aberrations from the highest vibrancy of scent take are placed on the back burner. Anyway here are some photos to get things started This is the second run of rose flos, topped at the 5th-6th node. They also just got moved outside

Here are few more things I've got happening:
two blue berry clones - same cutting two different stages of flowering, one i a little ahead of the other. supposedly it is a very blueberry tasting clone. bushy, branchy and short. green stems with light purple highlights. the pure old hawaiian - great pheno, superstrong plant. she smells of tropical fruit liquor and bubblegum the one female from the arcata trainwreck/hawaiianxflo - kind of an amazing hybrid and last but not least! .... the barra oaxaca babies!

Sht,...now that 'they' are called Rose....I can't help but finally 'get' that you Really meant that they resemble a Rose...I guess I just thought u said they were a few flavors, but now I see where you and this plant sit

Ha! I've been so hesitant to call them "rose" that for fear of being called out... but honestly, if there is another expression of flo that is more rose or higher vibed than this, I would truly be surprised to see it. I'm doing my best to isolate it. And though all the plants seem very similar in this generation, I am selecting for nothing less than the sublime. I truly feel honored by the universe to have found this expression.

SO, I've done something interesting: I've taken the outdoor plants and moved them inside to finish flowering, and I've taken the indoor plants outside to show their sex and then either move inside to flower or stay outside and grow throughout the summer. I normally do a spring outdoor harvest that is never quite up to snuff with the lengthening day light, so by bringing them in under the 1000 watt I am hoping for them to finish flowering with decisiveness.... Wish me luck - updates will follow.

the parents of all these rose flos:
I'm sorry about the poor focus on the female pic. The camera I'm using for these is really not my favorite one. Anyway, pay attention to the stretch and the bud structure on the female: It's got medium to long stretch, and the buds are small, roundish, and more or less tightly packed with small calyxes the leaf to flower ratio is decent but there is some leafiness. The resin was fairly short stalked and not too greasy
