Island in Thailand / Cambodia?

So I've got a flight booked to Bangkok for a holiday coming up...

Perhaps I'm crazy, but I have a fantasy...

A quiet, serene island. With some nice cannabis sativa.

A place where I can have an undisturbed wake and bake session. Then walk down to the beach, put on my fins and mask, and snorkel a beautiful coral reef, full of sea life.

I have no problem with cheap, basic accommodation or long journeys. Just looking for a place where I can smoke, snorkel, and relax. Being able to toke on the beach would be great too...

Koh Samet Thailand (check google maps)

You can stay at other cheaper resorts or bungalow rentals on the island and then walk up to Mooban's private beach if you like.
Their restaurant is the best on the island.

I definitely was low key but had no issue smoking while walking up and down the beach, swinging in a hammock by the beach or while swimming in the pool.

If you stay at the resort I did they will send a driver to pick you up at the Bangkok airport. Buy a couple of beers before leaving the airport for the drive (~2hrs) south to a fishing village then a short boat ride to the island. good snorkeling, cool bat caves, great hikes & amazing people on that island.

Many other areas in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand worth visiting too so maybe others will chime in with their experiences as well.

Try Koh Chang, which is close to Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand.....but it is still Thailand...

....it's a great place to hang-out....and if you are careful you should find it easy to score some 'erb.....just asked stoned looking foreigners....(other travellers)

I lived in Thailand for many years. Great country. I would try Koh Phangan. I avoid the island during the full moon parties but some like that scene. The rest of the time its a very laid back serene place that might just fit the bill perfectly. You should not have too much of a problem finding something to smoke either. I was picking up half kilos for $230. Wish I could go back with some bubble bags!

Good luck and have fun.
Cheers,
Bobby

Cheers to all for the information. Right now I'm leaning towards Koh Chang, per Gypsy Nirvana's recommendation. Any suggestions on which beach to stay at?

BPJR's got it right on...This is the backpacking island where you can find anything that exists in paradise. There are endless coves where you can get the party scene, or go further down the coast and it gets smaller and quiter. I deffinitely spent a over a month on a single beach puffing dubbies, mushroom shakes, killer food, people, bungalow right on the beach. Also camped with some friends and we shared the beach with one family who harvests coconuts. A++

The islands up north are for people with more money, less time. Never been as when I was there nobody had anything good to say about them. things change though.

if you're into scuba and snorkeling seriously, the island of Kho Tao has the clearest water I've ever been in. It was like a clear day underwater, the water wasn't visible. It's cheap of course and there's Whale sharks on the wide over there.

enjoy and plan on staying for the rest of your life...its that good and you'll wish you would've.

My personal favorite....Takes a little longer to get there but worth it....

Transportation wise try to rent a dirt ike instead of the usual moped...Much safer...

Say hello to everyone at the treetop reggae bar..

Going soon... The plan is to spend the weekend in Ko Samet with a Thai friend, then probably head east for Ko Chang and Cambodia... hopefully I can find some decent sativa...

When you are on Samet look up about a half hour before sunset and see all the bats come out of the caves and fly together across the island for food.
