Anyone Else Collect Books?
I started collecting only Hunter Thompson books and graduated to a near obsession. I mostly collect Modern First Editions and Fine Bindings but have a little of everything.
I mostly go after counter-culture related authors/themes and Early American History. Just wondering if anyone else get's into books.

In my younger days I collected 1st and 2nd edition Edgar Rice Burroughs(Tarzan,John Carter of Mars,At the Earth's Core)most with dust covers.
Also quite a few poetry books from around the Civil War(Edgar Allen Poe like the darkness)all these are bound in leather. Late teens and twentys started Stephen King,Dean Koontiz,John Sanford a little this and little that. Now I collect for grandkids, and gardening knowledge. Still theres nothing like gettin lost between the covers. Grow on,Fred |

Some of those Burroughs Firsts are commanding astonishing prices these days if they're Fine/Fine or nearly F/F. The market is in the gutter right now and a good time to invest in collectible books.

I collect natural history books, mainly monographs, and field guides of one kind and another.

I read a ton, but I only collect cannabis related books.
I have over 30, lots of old studies, and a bunch of the propaganda against cannabis books. I have 3 copies of the emperor wears no clothes, one for reading, and two collector copies, a first edition, and an autographed one. I also have the first five years of high times magazine. |

Good choice of genres! Some trade paperback martial art books get pricey as well.
I mentioned it in another book-related thread but in case it was missed. Bookfinder.com and Fetchbook.info are the best sites to hunt books.

Natural history books, especially monographs and field guides hold their prices very well.
I still wince at the price i had to pay for Ferns Mosses and Lichens of Britain and Northern and Central Europe. I have sold Cheng Man Ching books (paperback) on ebay for prices that amazed me, they where only partially in English. Specialised martial arts books are definitely collectable.
