Vancouver Island to California road trip
Hello IC,
I am planning on driving down the west coast from Vancouver Island to California next month and I am looking for suggestions of cool things to do/places to see etc.. Any suggestions in Washington/Oregon/Northern California? I have a truck with a canopy so I was hoping to camp along the way in some beautiful places. Any good surf spots or mountains to hit this time of year? Questions? comments? Thanks

Oregon Parks & Recreation Department: State Parks
The campgrounds with the yurts are the best deal from my experience. The largest cities on the Oregon Coast for getting supplies are (from North to South): Astoria, Seaside, Lincoln City, Newport (largest city on the Oregon Coast), Florence, Reedsport-Coos Bay (large commercial port), Bandon, Gold Beach and Brookings. Lots of little communities between these small cities - pretty rural for the most part except Newport and Reedsport-Coos Bay. Surfing can be found in areas around Seaside and especially Pacific City which even has a real, honest-to-God surfboard shop. Population is about 700 - if that. Pretty cold water - winter suits are definitely mandatory even in August. Seriously. HTH CC

I thought I would get some more responses... come on! |

Go stop by Bandon by the Sea in Southern Oregon, cute little town with a lot of cranberry bogs and a candy shop that makes the most amazing Cranberry candies.....Coos Bay just North is kinda cool too, have fun thats a great drive!

Thanks guys, I am writing these down. I like good food to so if you know of any places that are must visit spill the beans!
Also.. I have friends in Washington and California who I can get herbs from (don't want to risk it over the border) friend was saying that between states they have checkpoints now? Is it just a toll booth or actually dogs and police checkpoint? Anyone know what I am looking at if I get caught with a personal amount travelling in the PNW as a Canadian? |
