Scum in Rez
Hi,
I am getting a lot of scum like substance floating on the top of the water in my DWC res. Is this normal? I have been spooning it out daily. For nutes I am using BioBizz Grow, Alga-Mic, and Fishmx, with bottled water in a DWC bubbler/oxypot. Im new to this setup Ph 5.6-6.2, EC 1.2-1.3. The fishmix is very old, about 5 yrs old... but I ddnt use much, maybe 4-5mls per 14litres. |

what kind of temps u workin with? been tending to find out you either want alot of motion with nutrients and lots of benificial bacteria or minimimalize and keep it simple with basic nutes touch and add dutch masters zone at 2-3 ml /gallon and you will have beutiful white root balls as long as temps are 68 dgrees farenheit or so..... peace

hydro herpes ?
hopefully you dont have blue green algea-aka hydro herpes - if you do you are dirt and will never get a good hydro grow in that building again unless u defend against its spores forever with dutch master zone or similar product . no amount of cleaning or steralization will clean room/building of spores it sucks beleive me..... peace

hey angle4us,
The scum is definitely a derivitive of my nutes, as opposed to algae. I mentioned the fish mix might have been a bit 'off' so I am going to ease off this. I have been scooping the scum off each day and it does seem to be easing off now. Was thinking the PH down I was using may have curdled the nutes somehow. Not sure what res temps are. Room temps around 20-23C. I guess what I need to know is - Is this definitely NOT normal? |

a picture would be great, but my guess would be that its one of two problems could be outdated nutes. I'm not too familiar with the products your using. using organics you will get foamy colored mix that will probably stain your roots somewhat. this is no problem what u don't want is snot...if you have snot like shit hanging from your roots when you pull it out of the bucket rinse them off in your kitchen sink. the other problem could be with aeration just try adding another air pump. no need to buy some fancy hydro shop pump u can get a cheap $10 dollar two line pump from wally mart. the more bubbles u have in the entire bucket the better, moving water forms less harmful bacteria. good luck
