some interest, time for a quick smoke report
yield was around an oz, buds tight, good resin production
been dried/cured for 2 weeks or so

smell - green perfume, has a strong resemblence to parent
fragrant, but there's a green smell of fresh weed
little strange, but a good smell

taste - that's tougher, doesn't taste like anything familiar
maybe a bit of the odor in the taste, not bad
not parent similar

effect - here we go, this was a homerun for me
a very non anxious feeling, no head rush at all
a slow creeper that is excellent for anxiety
somewhat parent similar, better anxiety medicine

the disappointment, seed making failed on this plant, old pollen
also failed on #1, the other gem in the group
such is life

1 week of flower
unless my eyes deceive me, flowering quick
might be my most explosive plant yet
dreaded male things haven't shown up, but too early to relax

denial has run out, it's a male
2nd male, a 2/9 ratio, seems on the high side
well, better ratio than regs
explains the growth surge, but bud was needed

some good, the smell was spot on to parent
which had a taste that i would like back
so will try for some pollen

new summary

#1 - very good femme, closest pheno to parent
#2 - strong hermie, nasty strong indica of some sort
#3 - good femme, no hermie, good effect/not much for taste
#4 - a male, or maybe a strange hermie
#5 - very good femme, sterile roosters. good effect/excellent taste
#6 - good but some seeds, most sativa feeling yet, taste fair
#7 - no hermie, sativa looking pheno, tiny buds, suprizingly strong
#8 - very good femme, excellent anti-anxiety feel, taste fair
#9 - a big ass male, good smell

well, turns out this male is not so male after all
few early balls and no pistils for 2 weeks threw me
pushing strong into flower, but a few roosters
cleaning up easy at the moment
the smell is rocking, citrus plus the parent's perfume

4 weeks flower, interesting plant
it is a hermie, that dampens the enthusiasm
it is a stetcher, the LST out grew my 24 inch chamber
now in a 38 inch, and may need all of it
sativa influences perhaps

5 weeks of 12/12
bucking bronco of a hermie, was well behaved
no more, spraying and plucking
strangely little seeding damage seen
maybe getting better at plucking, but weeks to go
color getting sucked out of fans
light feeding, like the taste that way

6 weeks
it's a daily search and tweezer rip
balls for a while, now loose bananas inside the buds
ripping out the forming seeds too
with all this crap, it still looks ok
ripening fast for a slow to start flower
and getting a strong smell

7 weeks of flower
fans fading, buds don't seem to have suffered from it
seed plucking has paid off, not much seeding overall
late to flower, then fast flower and terrific stretch
curious on the smokeability(as always)

Toss intersex seeds or give them to the birds, in the near future there will be DNA tests for intersex, so it is easy to spot them when they are just an inch tall from the seed. Or be able to test any female clone before using to make seeds.
Why go through all the work to pick off male flowers and to be using intersexed plants as parents, they will make intersex progeny, intersex is inherited and you do not want it.
If you love the variety then find one with no intersex expression, or if you do not love it enough to go through all the hassle, toss it, and find a variety you like with no intersex.

this has been a learn by trying series of grows
to be fair, about 4 out of 9 had no intersex expression
but i am ready to move on, 1 more plant in veg fertilized with hermie pollen
after that new genetics, and hope to see far fewer balls on the girls

edit: and the very 1st plant was very nice and similar to parent, but no intersex
pollinated a side bud with regular male pollen, but lost that sucker when it bent unnoticed
kind of hoping another like it would show up

9 weeks and a close look at the trichomes
some slightly withered with a translucent tinge of amber
that was enough for me, the time had come
quite frosty on the whole, seeds are few
a somewhat sativa look seems to show, narrow buds
a thread wrap up after, it was a multi year effort
hard to believe i got sucked into this trait so deep, but so it goes

time to wrap up the thread, a summary for the interested

first, quick smoke report for plant #9
slim yields, over a half oz, but not close to a full oz
most of the S1's were not big yielders, not really a surprise
#9 was a notch up on the sativa side
not racy at all, this was true for the S1's on the whole

Why Hermie Seed?

of 4 seed lines, the hermied BrainWreck had the most sativa feel
and non racy, the hermie was a 'best hope' medicine

Sex Results

4 of 9 were pure female, 4 showed intersex, 1 a male looking thing
the intersex trait showed early
those plants could have been culled, but i grew out everything
what the hell

The Effect

nothing was edgy, that trait did breed true
quite varied otherwise, some were better than others

Ever Again?

not for a while, but a worth while experiment
maybe again, but early herms will get the boot
i have trimmed enough bananas for a loong time!

grrrrr :) scratch all that ^^^^^ go through the work because there is every possibility that it ends better than the above approach..

if it will be so easy in the future (it won't by the way) then what's the problem? we can focus 100% on effect without regard to anything else and not have thrown anything away unnecessarily? ;)
