So, i'm planning my first outdoor grow this year. I'll most likely end up getting Guerilla Gold from BBrad via Seedbay. I hear it's a easy plant to grow and you can expect some decent yields and killer bud.
Anyhoo, I got a few questions. 1) Should I grow in a pot or dig a hole and pour soil into it and plant it? I'm asking cause for some reason I feel like i'd have to water less if they plant was in the ground rather than in a pot. Maybe im completely wrong. 2) Do you OD guys pour anything around your plants to keep animals away or should I use a cage? 3) What about all those insects and stuff chewing away? Do you spray the plants with insecticide? 4) Foliar spraying. Im a HUGE fan of foliar sprays. Can I do that on OD or do I risk mold? 5) What's a good soil recipe? I don't wanna mix nutes every time I go out. I'd rather they get fed when it rains or just plain rain water i'll be catching. Thanks Maggers.

Do both, plants in ground and in pots. Good to learn them both, much more skill required to get the white ash outta the ground tho. Both have their pros and cons. I like to use Cory's Liquid Slug & Snail bait, usually put a ring of death about 2' away surrounding each plant. As for a recipe, you will have to play and see, I am still working on my mix for in ground lol. Maybe Bob will pop in with his recipe.

you can get brads gear on seedbay now? make sure you get them GGs out early enough so they have time to grow big before flowering.
1. In the ground. you won't have to water as much. 2. I use slug and snail bait in the spring when they are vulnerable. a cage couldn't hurt 3. I never had much of a problem with bugs. 5. I would go and see what the native soil is like. depending on how bad it is. remove the rocks, and the worst of the clay or whatever is in there. amend it with compost and/or manure, some peat or coco, perlite if it needs it. add lime. water polymer crystals. maybe dry ferts blood/bone meal or something, but know it attracts animals. put mulch over your holes to keep in water. bring a pick axe to dig your hole, if your area is anything like mine.

heres a gift.grow in containers with the bottem cut off.the reason you even need a pot(i prefer 1 gal)is so you can run a bead of silicone or liqued nail half way up the pot and roll the pot in glass(powder)or DE.mushroom compost tea for veg and early(2weeks max)bloom will give your plant major mold protection.what your want to run organic of chem?soil admendment should be coir and char/perlite.

Next Generation and Jordan both hae their own version of it in seed form, havent tried either so who knows how they stack up to the real clone, my guess is not close enough. Ask around for the cut, people still have her.

1) Pots definitely dry out faster. But you can move them around, if you ever need to...
2) If you live in an area with deer, (chances are you do) a cage is pretty important. I use poultry wire wrapped around a few poles, and folded closed at the top. Add more wire if needed as plant grows taller. A lot of the "deterrents" you can purchase don't work, or at best you will have to reapply after rain. Cages never fail. 3) I have never had a major insect problem. They will munch some leaves, but you won't need to spray anything unless the leaves start looking like someone took a shotgun to them. Nature has a way of balancing itself out. If you live in a moist climate slugs may be a problem until the plant stem hardens off. Put a few coils of copper wire/tape on top of the soil around the stem. Lava rock on the soil surface works too. 4) Foliar spraying is fine. Spray in the early morning so it doesn't stay wet all night. 5) Everyone has a different soil recipe. I usually mix native soil with any or all of the following, depending on its initial quality. If you can find good soil to begin with you won't need to amend much. Grasslands or swampy areas (may need to up pH) generally have good soil. Then add -perlite (prevents soil compaction) -chicken manure (nitrogen source) -peat moss (absorbs and holds water, lowers pH) -leaves -vegetable compost, coffee grounds, etc -bone meal (phosphorus, calcium) -blood meal (Nitrogen) -lime (will raise pH) -gypsum (loosens soil, adds calcium and sulfur) |
