Coffee shops closing?

I just read an article (cbsnews) where it says that the conservative government is closing shops to foreigners! Is this true? I´d hate to hear that this is true.

Yep they are def. thinking about it, and I can see them making the change in 2011. Shame really...

i read about it too something like year ago. Last christmas when i were in a'dam i saw metalgate or something like that in few coffeeshops.. I didnt get in before someone from the staff opened it.. local people just show somekinda card and the gate opened. I think i look just a littlebit stupid when i try to get through the gate and try to open it several times and ways before i saw how it works.

If the shops go I won´t be going to Holland any time soon. I wonder how much they´d actually lose on a ban? Most stoners aren´t big spenders, except for weed, beer and munchy food, so who has some hard figures?

No hard facts, but with 228 coffee shops and if each one payed 50,000€ taxes thats 11,400,000€. Add to that hotels, restaurants, taxi's and everything else its gotta be a giant chunk of money just in taxes for the city. I just don't see it happening. If it would happen some country thats strapped for money in europe would be wise enough to step in and fill the void.

MW: That´s quite a sum just from the shops so I guess with hotels etc thaty´d lose a lot more than 11 mil. Tulips are nice but they grow in my backyard
