The hashmaker

Consisting of basic household items I made a contraption to make hash... For me.. I call it The hashitater maker..

Basically is steel mesh, wired together in a cylinder, with some silkscreen over-top of the whole shebang of junk i had laying around!.. Viola a hashmaker!

I used to the same mesh i built the carbon filter with. ts uneven surface of squares is perfect, the weed is constantly moving and agitating.

It is driven using a 8 volts of dc power(wall transformer) with a geared motor.

build list.

10 gallon fish tank
old flat bed scanner - stole the main rod, bushings gears and motor.
2 cd spindles
old transformer(think it was the old baby monitor)lol..
thick weather striping
piece of silk screen 150 micron

also 5 min epoxy
hot glue, dremel /w cutoff wheel
drill.

The two spindles are the end pieces, they sit inside the mesh cylinder. I used the weather stripping to give them that press fit they need.. I also use the front spindle to drive to shaft which turns th whole baby.. currently just using tape to hold it together.. but im thinking a pin lock would work good, one you can slide into then retain the rear somehow, clip maybe...shrug......Im gonna cut the shaft down. Shes a little ruff.. but the motors running cool it takes about 2 mins to reload.... simple.

takes about two handfuls of good stuff or half full.. takes about 10-20 mins to tumble... works damn good! by far the easiest method i have come up with to make hash with!

looks like your fish tank is catching the bottom half, but what about the top half of the wheel? aren't you loosing thrichomes on the top half of the wheel? maybe you could put the wheel in a glass container were the entire surface area of of the wheel had had glass around it, it maybe more efficient to if you grinded the weed and had some sort of mixer in the wheel to help get "new bud to the surface of the screens.

Hopefully i worded everything alright and makes sense.

Looks like a promising idea with a little bit more work , keep it up.

Nope, they just fall a little further outwards.

Nah.. its catching it all.. Not making a mess anywhere other then below. after a good 2 hours of use now... it doesn't spin super fast..Looks like a skid mark with the heaviest deposits being right underneath. I am getting ALOT of nice kief! Good 15 grams by now!!

The top of the drum needs to be covered as well, otherwise you will lose trichomes as dust in the air.

Peace

OK , so i can see there is no believing, until seeing.

Tricomes still have weight, thus they fall under the same rules of gravity as everything else.. down..You guys keep on with the top loosing stuff... OK....lets prove you wrong then

Simple. I strung a wire ruffly about 2 inches above the drum. To this i attached electrical tape directly to the wire, sticky side down.. Then i took it a step further using tuck tape in addition Anybody who has used the stuff knows that if something contacts it it's gonna stick to it like nothing. So if this dust cloud exists im gonna catch some of it with the tape!! solid theory?? ok then..

Ran it for 2 hours this way.. checked the tape.. Nothing... can't say im surprised..
I will run it all night.. then take a picture. for all to see...

Come-on dudes.I am a DIY guru, I never build weakness..lol

See the pattern in the oodles of Kief???? slightly in front of the drum has a spray effect of keif... so it falls off before reaching the top of the drum... i have next to nothing at the rear of the drum which would indicate this..

Only directly below the drum and a good dusting in front. This is consistent with the rotation of the drum.

edit*** updated pics of the tape

the tiny amount that you see after 4 hours is my screw up.. I accidentally smacked the tape into the drum while i was mounting it....oops.

I checked out the youtube vid...it seems to spin very fast (around 100 rpm) so doesn't the plant material spin (with centrifugal force) rather than turn and drop?, are you able to gear it down to 25 ~ 45 rpm?

another way to build it would be to use a large size (new) paint can instead of the old fish tank that way the mesh would be fully contained....but hey, you use what you have, don't you..and if the high speed rpm works, go for it!

Good point! The RPM is of course about surface feet (foot diameter X RPM) and depends on the diameter of our tumbler drum.

25 to 30 rpm is commonly used for about an 8" drum and faster gives more surface feet for a smaller diameter drum.
