Greetings Red!
Just finished growin out some FLO...currently lovin it! Now I'm interested in FLODICA! I pulled this off an DJ article that ya posted on OG...Unfortunately, the “Flodica” (and the “True Blue Moonshine”) were nearly sterile--i.e. no (or very few) seeds developed, and were therefore culled. What does this mean & how does it relate to the current Seedbay stock? Haven't been able to find any documented Flodica grows. Lookin for some feedback. Any info would be appreciated.Tx, KBB |

I'm also interested in this statement. I have 2 Flodica females at present that are flowering (finally, dammit!). One of these, along with an autoflowering female plant from Gypsy's/Sagamatha "Magical Mystery Mix", were placed in a cab with 2 male Flodicas about 6 weeks ago. Alongside this was another Flodica female (hopin for F'2's) 4 plants total.
I believe that these 2 female plants...due to their *direct* contact with the Flodica males, are producing seed...or at least, seed pods. They have a month or so to go...and that'd be letting em go for 10 weeks since they were placed with the males. What I saw...and the statement you quoted above makes me think I'm not nutz...was the Flodica male pumping out male flower pods that mostly just fell off before they opened. In 5 weeks of watching this process, I never once saw visible pollen in the air..or coming off the plant when I shook it..or on the leaf surfaces. I was planning on sharing this pollen with a well-known breeder...but alas...there was nothing to send that I could see but pods. Hopefully there was some bumpin and a grindin goin on somewhere in there just the same! KBB..there's a bit of whining on my part ;-) about Flodica in the "True Blue vs. Blueberry" thread in this forum...but it isn't much of a documented grow. Basically, 4 of 10 germed from a $150 pack...2 males, 2 females. All grew INCREDIBLY slow in veg. It took about 6-7 weeks to get any cuts from em...and they were only 18" tall then. (the cuts did root though) As a comparison...I started D mans Red Widow 13, Sage, Cannalope, and MMM at the same time as the Flodicas...and I've harvested 2 rounds of CH, a round of Sage, and had a 13 week stint with the RW...and the damn Flodica is STILL just now in about the 6th week of flowering. An easy 6 weeks behind the RW.... 8 weeks of veg..and 6 weeks of flowering so far...and it looks like it still has a ways to go. Not much purple yet on anything but the leaf stems and a striping up the main stem...but the smell *is* very earthy. I have 3 more in clone form that are 18" tall...so the clones may go a bit faster...but it's still a long haul for an indica. Without a doubt, I'm very interested to smoke this one after the long wait! |

durga,
Your Flodica sounds very similar to my current Flo grow with the slow veg. I have better germ rate (11/12) but it looks like I will end up with only 3 maybe 4 females. |

Good luck with yer Flo Hash Assassin! I'll post pics when we get closer to finish...if it ever finishes! ;-)
Hopefully there was enough pollen present in the cab to pollenate the ladies. The MMM that autoflowered has a very nice/sweet/berry type smell...and is forming nice sized buds even though it spent 6 weeks/the start of it's flower under a 2 light...2 ft long T-5 flourescent lamp. I hope this is great smoke. It may be worth keeping around due to it's peculiarity and recessive traits....and due to the fact that it may not be continued in the DJ line. hopin for some purple! |

Well killbillbuds..looks like we're still looking for some sort of answer...
Until then..and since there don't seem to be any other grow reports out there on this plant, I thought I'd post up a few pics of my (unseeded) Flodica gal. Sorry they aren't the best shots...I just stuck the camera in the room during the dark period...aimed it in that direction..and snapped it. I'll try to do her a bit more justice before the chop...sometime soon. As you can see..there's a bit of purple creepin' into the bud...but not an overabundance...and not near as much as I've seen on some Flo pics out there. Mostly just purple leaf and stem action so far. However, I've let it hang out this long...so I'm willing to give it a bit longer to see if more color develops. I've even thought about taking it out into the garage for it's last few days where it's about 45 degrees w/minimal light during the "day'...and maybe a few degrees less than that at night. Might be kinda interesting to see what happens to the coloration/trich coverage in such temps. FYI....the buds are very dense, slightly earthy/sweet/berry...and (finally) frosting up nicely. Hopefully the reported narcotic high (low) will play out fully. Its certainly been one Hell of a long wait for this herb! As I said earlier, Lady #2 got her groove on with two of the Flodica boys (that slut) and another female MMM (yowsir). I checked the MMM lady today...and I'm pleased to say that while I saw no pollen flyin' while the plants were together from Thanksgiving to Christmas...and only saw pods fall off unopened....(although they were a pretty purple)...seeds have definitely formed deep down inside the bud. I dug one out today and they are looking good. Lady #2 of the MMM has a slight berry smell to her own bad self...so it might be a great cross...especially to try outside. (flowered at a foot under 18/6..finished at about 2 ft) And...I'm fairly sure from this finding that there are seeds in the other lady Flodica...but she's really dense and sticky and I'm letting her go until I think she can't possibly go any longer before the chop. Yum. I have a few clones off mom #1 that are about a week in 12/12 now (we'll see what the flower time is on these) ...and one of those is hanging back in veg until she too can offer up a few cuts and keep things goin long enough to smoke/make a decision regarding her future in the garden. I've read where DJ says his pot is the best/better than anyone else's out there...so we'll certainly see if that holds true or not in the next few weeks or so! durga |

Thanks for the pictures and info people. I just ordered some of this Flodica myself and hopefully have a better germ rate also. But really looking forward to growing it out. Is there any other inside info on growing this strain. As far as nutes, any problems you have encountered and what did you do to correct them ?

SaH....
I would seriously consider scuffing the seeds a bit before germing them. They are rock hard little bastards. I wish I would have done this. It may have increased my germ rate.(?) A few things: You will see mutant looking plants. It will take awhile for them to grow out of this. As far as nutes, this strain doesn't seem to like em at all. Anything above plain water will curl the leaves under...but hey..what'cha gonna do? I just skipped the fert on em about 1/2 the time and let em curl. (I grow in soil) They have a nice structure...more columnar than branching..but they will branch after a good veg. They roughly double in height when flowered. Yeild appears to be average. *I'll know soon! I'll take more pics at harvestime. I didn't note the day they went into flower, and I really don't believe the flower time....so am just letting em go until they don't wanna go anymore/look done. The seeded plant is looking VERY nice...FAR more purple than her sister...and plumpin up very nicely! I'm giving this one another 2 weeks or so..and am gonna flush her good tonight to get things rollin towards that end. Looks like we'll be doin some more of these to see what we find farther down the line/with more seeds to play with. good luck! durga |

So they are like the Blue Moonshine that start out looking abit on the weird suck your brains out weird ? Ok I'm going to use FoxFarm Ocean soil and for the first feeding I use worm farm water runoff. So I'll wait untill the plant tells me it needs something before I feed it. Once again thanks for the heads up... Hopefully my seeds come today. *S* p.s. My seeds did come today one week total.

Durg, yer Flodica is lookin REAL nice...like the lavender hues on the leaves and stems! Hope it turns out great for you, especially for the price!
I'm gonna pass on this one...given the question has gone unanswered for so long. Plus the extended time you put into it...and the germ ratio you got...female to male ratio, etc. Not enough positive traits it seems. Good luck to others who bought these beans as well. Hope ta see everyone's results so it can be shared with the peeps curious about this release. Peace KBB |
