fuckin' e-mail got hacked ??
so everyone that is in my contacts in one of my yahoo e-mail accounts got an e-mail from me today.... that i didn't send them.
it was sent w/ (no subject), and the only thing in the e-mail was a link. if they klicked the link it took them to a website w/ an encrypted address that advertises a canadian phamacutical company that sells viagra stuff. ...then that persons contacts all get the same e-mail from them. how common is that crap, and is it damaging my computer or do i just need to cancel that e-mail acct. and forget about it? (aside from all my contacts bitching at me about it)... ...and where would it have come from?

The Canadian Pharmacy email hack has been around for awhile now. In most cases, if you change your password, it should be ok.

Very common. Can range from simply irritating to having to rebuild your machine to "I gotta call all my financial institutions and a lawyer now".
It's a good idea to change passwords on all email accounts periodically anyways, as well as any other online accounts such as banking, etc. Use a good strong password, and never click the "Remember Me" or "Stay logged in" checkbox on any account you really care about. If remembering strong passwords is difficult, consider using a secure password vault, or something like KeePass. You probably fell prey to a worm or XSS exploit. You should be running an antivirus program which automatically updates it's virus signatures on a regular basis, as most will catch stuff like this before it has a chance to do anything. If you are on Windows and don't want to spend any money but do want an unobtrusive but fairly good antivirus, consider using Microsoft Security Essentials. If money is not an issue, many commercial internet security packages have nice anonymity features also. You might want to consider installing an antivirus right now. Don't wait until you see something worse happen. |

I allways wondered if the people that worked for Apple started the first "worms" viruses for PC's, sure does sound like they go together. Soft'war like software, its silent.
