How old is to old???

How old is to old for a MMJ seed?? Not 27 years that's for sure.

I know I can talk all day about having a huge selection of seeds I have been saving for like 27 years.

I started collecting seeds from bag seed back in the early 80s. I figured if nothing else I could always grow my own. I only kept the best of the best as I came across it. I ordered a "The Seed Bank" catalog in 88 and still have the skunk #1 seeds from that buy, Others were used. Besides that I have collected about 50 strains of unknown origin as they were just very good smoke that the seeds came from. Now i should say i am a heavy smoker and have been through massive amounts of smoke over the years, but I only saved the best, All others were thrown out. You will see in the pic of the seeds laid out that I have some known strains. These came from Steve Tuck, I met up with him in Vancouver in 2000 and bought a handful of strains, WW, Hindu kush, Durban poison, sweet tooth, and a few others. I will start on some of those soon. I am looking for a special plant and with all the genetics I have to work with I see no problem finding some jewels in there.

Being a port city I was lucky to have weeds from all over the world brought in here. I have not added any seeds in over 10-12 years to the collection as the indoor growing exploded the imports starting falling off. (No seeds)

I am posting a picture of my collection and a few of a mex I grew out of them a couple years ago.

Save the genetics!

PS,
I just sprouted some 25 year old beans and here they are a week later! I have no idea what they are but we will see. I love finding new plants in this collection. It is like Christmas You never know what's in the package.

Also look close at the box with the pictures, You can see the 88' "The Seed Bank" catalog folded under a few pictures,!

The seedlings and progression pictures are from this new round. First pick is 9/16/2010 and the last ones are from 10/15/2010

Funny? They are all 4 girls? No males this time? Find that strange? I do know last time I only got one male out of 15 plants. I think it has to do with my low temps during the first few weeks in the room. I has been said to produce more girls and it seems to work for me.

This group of pictures is from my closet 2 1/2' x 4' with 1 400w hps and 1 400w mh. Good cooling and self run. This is a group of plants from this batch of old seeds and was done in 2006.

Maxibloom at 1 tsp (~ 7 grams) per gal is the same as this mix at 1 gal.

Only use about 10 ml of Florabloom and 5 ml of Floramicro per gallon. Without a conductivity meter

The best media take in water fast and give it back fast, creating more air space as they do so.

hey

hey bro,
I have the same type sort of deal as you that I just discovered when I went to clean out my moms house a few years ago when my parents passed away. It was locked in an old foot locker I had when I returned from school in Europe. It was not seeds from Europe, just the footlocker was that I jammed the seeds into and some weed in bags before I went in the military in the 80's.......I collected the seeds from where I grew up in this small fine Southern Town I still live in..........I never looked in the locker until I found it in the basement on a shelf. I opened it and there it was.........I had even marked the seed bags as far as what type of pot it was and how it got you high..........my buddy smoked the weed, I did not. He said it was ok......very stale and dry.......but he said it got him high.....ok whatever .......anyways........I planted some last year....I got one female..I took a few clones and put her outside(Seed plant) and flowered the clone..made one a mother....well at 14 weeks and counting there was still clear trichs on that bitch, it was still filling out and going.....I think it was 14 or 16 weeks I chopped her still not ready as she was just killing my grow spaces..if I had a smaller light to shove her in a closet I would have, but I do not all mine are too big for that........she was great.......got about 14.5 ounces off her...she was huge.....great high lasted forever, but you could tell she was immature.....the outside plant was outside until late November that year.the only thing green for miles, stuck out like a sore thumb people walked right past it all year and never saw it high up on the side of the mountain....I could see it from driving on the road coming to the place where you parked, it looked like a huge Christmas tree......this one had amber trichs.I do not know how much we got as me and my buddy rode our horses up there and harvested that bitch and rode back down with these tree branches hanging off and laughing, threw it in the dressing room and went home and dried it all on a metal screen type picnic table at his house and then had a huge party and just kept throwing out big buds for people to smoke on at the party and BBQ....We are Southerners you know.
All said and done after the party there was over 18ozs left

definately some landrace sativa's from that era.........I just do not have the time or patience for 18 week flower periods which the ones I flowered were. Maybe I will try it again, maybe this year put her outside and cross her with a seriously heavy narcotic like indica I have.
Good luck bro......maybe you or I could contribute to some new strain crosses starting with baseline genetics...........my seeds popped in about 24 hours, so they are still viable now in 2011 and I put them in there in 1980's before I left. They were stored in the old black film canister with the gray lids from that era.
later.
