Pure Strains - Landraces - International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums

About 3 years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Columbia, South America. Blow isn't my idea of fun, so you know I spent a little time chasing weed. There was cheap, seedy weed that worked well. And some that didn't. Then there was less cheap weed, that was like 1975 all over again. Various shades of golds, green and red. My problem is that while there are a great many hybrids of this and that available, there seem to very few or no pure strains readily available. Look at any of the larger seed banks and you'll find various crosses. Don't get me wrong, it is easy to buy seeds that will produce awesome weed, if you do your part.
But there don't seem to be PURE Columbians, or Mexicans or whatever out there. Seems like every breeder has to try to add a little something extra. I am glad we didn't try to bring home seeds from Cartagena, it is the only time I've ever been searched LEAVING a country.

The interest in pure bred landraces is probably as recent as the last 15 years in the cannabis culture. It's easy to keep a locally bred strain pure because there's probably not much else around to cross it with. When commercial connoisseur grade cultivators get hold of any genetics at all, they tend to cross with anything else they have on hand and pursue that cross rather than perserving the seperate lines. If you want pure landraces, you have to go back to Columbia and find the folks who didn't outcross to any of that other stuff.

Sounds like a cool trip. I would like to try some of those red and gold buds to compare to modern hybrid stuff.

I smoked a bit of the lumbo back in the 70's, was very nice as I remember. The pure lines are kinda hard to grow and flower late. With inbreeding the hermi, flower, yield etc. problems can be fixed somewhat.

ACE and CBG seeds here at the boo have some inbred landraces to check on.

If you want those same seeds then just find some local brickweed and have at it.

Ugandan blacklung. Pure african sativa growing in Ireland. Not the best weather for it but if you dont somethin, nothin gets done.

SMG or santa marta gold great to work with and the yields are sky high.
