can all hps bulbs be hung vertical?

Or just the ones with "U" in the name.I am looking at 600 watters now
but they have to be able to be hung vertical for the cool tube I am making.

Thanks.

Peace

PS if anyone would like to build their own cool tube I found a good
source for cast acrylic tube and also a source for 10 inch glass
cylinders.I'll post links if anyone wants.

>"U" can be hung in any position but loses intensity in the horizontal position,"Hor" is for horizontal use if u want to use a bulb for vertical use then u NEED the universal bulb ="U" This pertains to Metal Halide< BUT from what I am reading in my light bulb book it says:- "HPS bulbs are the most efficient light source, with the highest amout of lumens per watt. They can be burned in both the horizontal & vertical position. Many gardeners find that hps bulbs promote more flower production.Hope this help .Peace Bm357

They are usually marked "V" for vertical, "U" for universal, or "H" for horizontal. Don't use "V" bulbs horizontal or vice-versa; you run a risk of the bulb exploding.

im not quite sure that is the case. I think if you burn a bulb in the wrong position it just shortens the life expectency, thats it.

Swimmer is on a distinguished road
Yes, All HPS bulbs can run either direction and work equally well.

It is MH bulbs that operate position sensitive.

The only lamps suitable for vertical growing are marked V or U

It's not hard to find the right tool for the job here people. Most bulbs are marked U, unless you are stealing them from your municipality or off of some one's garage or parking lot, you should have no reason to use anything but the right thing.
