Unfortunately it's going to get cold around here soon, fortunately I have a greenhouse and the suns light is enough that if I put a vegged plant I have inside into my greenhouse soon it will still have enough light to flower. Thing is this greenhouse has very little fresh air coming in and if I bring outdoor air in it will just cool my greenhouse and kill my plant. SO my question is, how does one avoid mold in a greenhouse, would a fan blowing on the plant keep the air moving and lower the chances of mold? Help is appreciated!

Pull in very little outside air if you can, in a controlled manner. Filter the air, the filter will also slow the air down and give it a chance to warm up.

You need both circulation and ventilation. So yes, a fan would also be required.

Does your greenhouse have electricity? If so I would look at running a cold air intake through a filter, in combination with a space heater and a circulation fan.

If you can afford it, you can put an intake and a heater on a greenhouse controller. CAP and Sentinel make good controllers. I would look into that.

I'm using one of these to control the environment, and they work great. They make more affordable models w/o the CO2 and timers.


Also, I would invest $20-$50 in a good hygrometer to tell you temps and humidity in there, that will be key to avoiding mold. I like the Oregon Scientific ones, they have a memory function and will read MAX and MIN recent temp and humidity, because you can't always rely on the instantaneous reading, you can't be there 24/7. You can also buy a seperate wireless sensor for these and they will read the sensors on the base station. So you can hang the sensors in different places.

(You don't want to be reading these numbers ^^^^^^ !!!!!)

Id get a small dehumidifier in there with a desk top fan circulating the air around your plants. But as the above poster said you'll need to get some air exchange going on at some point even if its not a huge amount.

Thanks guys, Unfortunately I have very little money to spend on this and I was hoping for cheaper/easy fix's if that's even possible. One day i'm hoping to be able to put a sweet controller in like that, but for now I guess it's going to be putting a fan on the plant and hope for the best....

im running mold resistant strains and have exhaust fans and box fans running 24/7
ams and the church from greenhouse seeds

cut off the lower branches to help air circulate and keep a fan going 24/7

cover any bare soil on the ground that you can as this will reduce humidity.

water sparingly

remove all dead and dieing leaves religiously.

if you get mold growing on stems then wiping it with a baby wipe every day or two will keep it at bay.

keep the plants as well spaced as possible

try and reduce big changes in temperature, it's when the temps drop in the evening that condensation forms and this is one of the main causes of mold. a fan heater with a thermostat can help here as well as increase air circulation.

also watch out for drips coming from the roof and keep your plants away from them

Thanks, I am running Northern Lights 5 by HGS and I've heard it's a very hardy plant so hopefully mold will stay at bay....

I plan on doing just one or two large plants that have been vegged indoors, and placing a fan directly on the plant, or have it oscillating around it.

Mold comes from too much humidity.. U can try smelling in ur growroom, if it smells ok.. its usually ok.. if the air is thick.. do something about it plants and human like about the same moisture.. =)

hey there I live in Hawaii and have to deal with mold on a daily base. I use EM-1 it is a microbial inoculant it work. you can spray it on every three to five days and up to the day you pull your plants, it only effective Microorganisms and they eat the mold the only thing is your plant will have a white dust look but never hurt my plant or the taste. the bad part is it's only sold here in Hawaii but here is the phone number 808-548-0396 web site is www.emhawaii.com I hope I could be some help
