Landrace value and preservation

I have some questions regarding what makes a determined seed a landrace, does it need to be like immemorial like in some indian and asian breeds? I ask this because i have some seeds, and they have no name that i know of but i know they are being cultivated in my area for lots of years. I supose they originated in africa possibly in the colonies held by Portugal, and passed on to a group of growers that have been using it since i can remember. It sure is acclimatized but although the different phenos can be different there is a fruity and perfumed one that takes a little longer to flower that is one unique taste... having been introduced only 2 years back to seed banks only now i realize the product i had so far... So now to the point, the oldest grower is under arrest and waiting trial and hes friend is leaving the country and with them they might be in the wild, growing alone i imagine but who knows until when? I think its obvious i should keep seeds but is this considered a landrace? What would you guys do in this situation? your best effort to keep the genetics intact or is this a normal situation and should not care at all.
