It has long been a dream of mine to travel in one direction around the world and arrive at my original start point. Firstly, to prove to myself that the world is not flat and seconly to go insearch of a collection of landrace genetics from a few of the more far flung areas of the globe.
When younger, the anticipation of waiting through an entire grow period before one had any idea of the results of the genetics acquired months earlier were known. Mostly these were from bag seed from imported weed but on occation from freinds whom had managed to return home a few from in my case the indian subcontenent, middle east or south east asia. More often then not the results were....well shit in comparason to the multitude of refined genetics available at ease in todays market. However, some of the plants still remain the finest ive smoked (self-grown) The dream faded when a job, debts and family made thoughts of traveling the silk road to Katmandu a "pipe dream'. And although the debts are still ever present. The other two said obsticals have since...well my partner has past and the econnomy crashed....enough said...im gone!!!! So ive decided to pursue my dream and travel the world building up a stock of fresh genetics which are well needed in my part of the globe. Before the insecent phone calls from credit institutions makes my cat go fucking postal on there sorry asses. I would apreciate suggestions on some sources of unique genes I already posses a library of southern african strains as well as afew variations of plants from the Rif mountains in Morrocco. My initial thoughts were destinations such as: India Nepal Ethiopia Loas Cambodia Australia the pacific islands. How i would love to travel to the hindu kush however im not so sure how that would work out at this present moment in history. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. A round the world ticket (If i am indeed eligable) seems to be the route in which to take. Budget is tight but since hoping to travel before the holidays in December. Aswell as a small bit of savingsI hope to sell some of my Camera equipment and possably up production of my meds so i have a lil surplus to "give" to close friends. And arrive at about 5000 euros traveling for between 3 and four months. ![]() |

Sounds like a nice trip. A few months ago I scored 3 oz of very fresh and pungent bush weed. The herb bringer is a reputable man and said it came from Uganda. Very social and sky bursting high.Lovely taste too... Soaring like an eagle for a few hours. Plenty of seeds came with the purchase and being an optimist I threw about 20 - 30 in the soil. Nearly ,if not everyone sprouted. This was in april I think. Anyway, I'm over 6 foot and some of the plants are now as big as me. Few diff phenotypes but looks like under proper conditions this strain could be a high yielder. I live in scaldy Ireland so dont have the right weather for big yields. Im hopin they can flower before the first frost hits big.... Dont know what the political climate in Uganda is right now, but that green would give most landraces a run for its money. Africa is a beautiful place full of amazing experiences. Bang. Or you could head out to nepal for the harvest.... thats where Im goin. Roll on middle October....

figure out what type of conditions you want your room or greenhouse or a couple traits you want then go to those climates there is no ultimate landrace..... just each one is naturally the ultimate for the "land" it is "naturally selected" for....

The hunt for landraces is mostly a hunt of ego similar to moby dick. Most gene pools have been compromised by now in terms of globalization. Those places that haven't are usually remote, and or dangerous. Perhaps there are parts of NE India and Nepal safe, but I believe the biggest repository of isolated genetics is going to be in Afghanistan and the Durant area.

Get a job in the airway industry. This may get you through airports with greater ease and @ less cost. Multiple runs in one area might yield hard to find results. Get used to seeds up your duff/ taped to your taint when you cant mail them home.
Saying the entire globe has been genetically compromised is a bit outspoken. Im envious of the adventure you will undertake. Be smart, be safe & good luck!

Sounds like a cool pursuit. I don't know too much about the Hindu Kush situation but I'd consider Iran if you're looking for a safer alternative. The local strains are less like to have outside influence than a modern Afghani for example but are probably a close match genetically.
Other hot spots for uncontaminated landraces are the more remote parts of India, Nepal, Burma, Laos and Cambodia although commercial strains are sweeping through them as we speak. My top picks would be the Terai and mountainous areas close the Tibetan border in Nepal, north eastern India to Burma and Bhutan and the Laotian highlands. Massive diversity in a relatively small area.
