Where should I move to in the US?
I am going to graduate college next year. The economy is terrible everywhere, so the advice "go where you can get a job" doesn't apply anymore IMO.
I have grown for years and love it. I plan to get a day job but I also wish to grow on a medium-sized level. I'll have 10 grand in my pocket and a college degree, albeit in a useless major (psychology). Where should I move to guys? California is probably out. Everybody already has meds there so that market is tapped, the cost of living is insane and there are not a lot of entry level jobs. Colorado is a question mark? I believe the underground market is tapped there too, but I'm not too sure. Cost of living is high near the mountains as well, but better jobs. My favorite state (if we put aside illegality of cannabis) is North Carolina. Cheap cost of living, humidity isn't THAT bad, and fun, fun oceans. What do you guys think? I currently live in Ohio and it sucks big time. The midwest is no place for a young man to spend his twenties and thirties IMO. |

If you are doing this for passion, Cali.
if you are doing this for money, not Cali.

just FYI 10 grand out here in CA is nothing, you will have rent covered, maybe, and perhaps a couple 1000 watters tops... unless you're goin ghetto with the setup (sounds like you know whats up though). Definitely can't do "medium sized" out here for 10 g's... unless you're goin outdoor.
I know you already mentioned this in your first post, just I know a lot of people will just spew out CA regardless of what your actual intentions are. good luck! sounds fun to me

Thank you, Zen and Karma. I should clarify that my interpretation of medium-sized is like 2K flowering in tents and a 400 for veg and moms, perhaps in an extra bedroom of an apartment. Perhaps that's "small" or "small-medium" to some.
As to your first post, for me, both. I agree that California is probably a bad idea for me. With, what, 1K a month rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in the hood somewhere, and even then a 15 percent unemployment rate, or whatever it is? Awful awful awful. The advancements in technology and medicine have been great in the past few decades, but overall this is a very tough time to come up in the world, if I dare spend a moment in self-pity. |

Yeah, I was just going to say that the grand total for my burried Cannabunker (16'x16') with everything included (4 x 1000) was close to $50,000. My growing supplies came to about $12,000.

this may be a strange sounding suggestion, but NY has some possibilities
very close to MMJ, could be happening next year, came very close this year unemployment rate isn't great, but much better than many other places starting a large grow might not be a good idea when you arrive, but things may get much better soon

Thanks for your perspectives, much appreciated. I guess Ohio really isn't that bad for growing, all things considered. It's probably one of the most affordable spots in the country. But I just couldn't spend the rest of my life here and be reasonably happy. I need something new, even if it's not a sexy place like LA or Boulder.

I've move to Canada instead, the US is full of dumb rednecks. Canada's economy is doing better as well since they have a balanced budget a huge oil surplus. Given the choice of the US regardless of economy I'd probably move to Cali that's pretty much the only state I have interest in seeing which I haven't. I'd much rather live in Europe as well people are just plain smarter there instead of anti-science religious nuts everywhere.
All the years of prosperity have quite honestly made American fat, lazy, arrogant and stupid and it's just a very very dangerous combination. Income is high here, but that's about the only benefit. At the same time the middle class is losing money while the rich are richer than ever. In general I would recommend against any nation with an out of control wealth gap because you know the result will be losing rights so corporations can make more money and monopolize choice. Looking at GDP the US has stalled and the EU is pulling away so in the long term Europe is going to be the economic superior of the western world. Of course, for me, there is a the language barrier problem so my choices would be limited unless I learned a new language. A lot of people seem to like NYC also. I personally don't like DC. Philadelphia is probably my favorite city on the east coast as NYC is just a little to much for me. However I prefer more rural settings which are near big cities and PA i simply more affordable. If you smoke pot and want good pot laws on your side the choice is clear... go west to Cali. I simply a much more progressive state, at least for the US which is a nation of dumbasses mostly. I know most nations are roughly the same, but it's worst here. People live in complete obedience to corporate monopolies and allow themselves to be easily divided by the media and politics. We are a nation highly divided and in that division we are weak and prone to corruption via wealth but unlike other nations we have empowered the rich to a degree beyond sanity. Perhaps 40 years ago this was a great nation, but since then we've become pawns of the wealthy with no desire to fight back. There are few opportunities here that can't be had with a better standard of living in other nations. We have one of the lowest longevity rates among comparable nations, insane amounts of people in prison and enormous crime problems as well as an aging infrastructure which half of the nation refuses to invest into because that would be socialism. So we can't have good internet or nice roads and bridges because that's big government spending, but we can spend about half our total federal budget on military which is close to as much as all the other major nations of the world combined. We also made torture legal. So basically now is probably the worst time since the inception of the United States to live here, as least in a relative nature to the rest of the world. While the US has stood still for 40 years the rest of the world has made huge improvement. I mean.. we don't even have bullet trains here because we are so backward. We are anti-mass transit. We love consumption and think pollution doesn't matter. More than half of American's don't believe in evolution and think the Apocalypse is coming within their lifetime. How sane can a nation be when more than half it's people think the Apocalypse is coming within their lifetime. Sadly those religious nutballs don't take it upon themselves to love they neighbor or be meek in the face of their self fulfilling doom prophecy. Pretty much all the bad shit you hear and see on TV about the US is true and then some. It's a great geography but the people of US need a long hard lesson in humility before this nation can return to greatness. We have become a selfish and narrow minded people who blame government for everything but themselves for nothing. Given the option I'd relocate to Canada in a heartbeat. |
