Hello, I recently got a 2000 Dodge Avenger in the finish, "Caffe Latte" which is basically Gold. It is not really my choice of color, and I feel it limits my options as far as racing stripe colors, etc, and I don't know how well the black rims I am getting will look with my current finish.

I would like to get it painted either a very dark grey metallic, or a black with somewhat of a sparkle.

I have never gotten any sort of paint job done before, so I'm wondering what range I should expect the price to be, for a complete paint job?

on the east coast at a decent shop your gonna pay atleast 1500, atleast. That's you dropping your car off and picking it up done.

I sanded and primed my own car when i was 16 and Maaco charged 200 bux to shoot it with a coat of black.

get what you pay for

Thanks man, yeah that's around what I was expecting. I'm not on the east coast though, I'm in the midwest, so perhaps it will be somewhat cheaper since everything is more expensive on the east coast.

Shop around and realize you get what you pay for. Cheaper jobs are often done with less prep work resulting in poor long term results.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be cheap, at least for a quality job. I think I will ask to see their work at different places, so I know they do a good job. I don't mind paying the price, as long as I get what I pay for. I don't want to be ripped off or anything, and have a shitty paint job, you know?

keep in mind it costs a lot extra to change colors. painting inside doorjambs -hood-etc. talk to your shop about you sanding car, and them painting it. if you can supply labor its lots cheaper.

my friend, i would sell your car and buy one the color you want before i painted a car that did NOT NEED IT. as was said above: door jambs, under the trunk and hood etc. a great paint job will pull off every bit of chrome, mirrors, etc. it is a pain in the ass, and my experience is that you will NOT LIKE IT no matter how much it costs. nothing will beat factory paint in the price range you want. myself, my next car will go to maaco. i will do all body work, strip all the moulding, mirrors, etc off, PAY THEM WHATEVER EXTRA they want to do it, and hope the guy is good. look at their work first just to make sure he can paint. ask it they color sand it and for how much more. you could live without it, the factories dont do it either. good luck with this one. my 'maro was $8000 but needed a bunch of metal replacement (not alot, but wheel wells, rocker panels, etc).. it looked great but was supposed to cost me 6!
