does anyone know how to jack into a ceiling light?
Hey all.
Just trying to set up my closet grow and it would be nice if I could jack into the closet light instead of wiring a whole new socket. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

best to do a homerun wherever possible..
![]() if not tho, pull down the fixture thats there, hook up a GFI receptical and plug your ballast into that. it's of utmost importance to do this in an indoor grow, do not just go ohooking the ballast up directly. also check the line to see what else is branched off of it, 15a doesn't go that far and if it's a closet that means it's just coming off a main circuit from a conencting room, again, [b]how much light are we talking about using here?[b] and how much is free on the line good luck, thanks for being smart and asking.. you did the right thing. great start! keep on Playin' it safe cj |

use the above info i posted and plug all the devices into a cheapo power strip then into a GFCI
if you wait for more replies the disney characters will all come out of the woodwork and tell you to buy some adapter to screw into the light socket , you can do this too but you should be treating your grow as an outdoor application as there is lots of water around. id do it the right way, but what do i know, im apparently a nobody here. cj |

ps- the adapter i just mentioned is a two prong not even grounded and it's meant for christmas lights..... meant to extend power to say, your lawn, for christmas lights from your front door's wall lantern.

the only problem i see with the GFI in the light switch is the switch itsself wouldnt want the switch to shut off and u get no power for ur pumps also if u ticked the GFI OFF it would be a bitch goin to the celinng to reset it .....if the light is a self contained switch..meaning it has a pull cord or push button on the light its self then it would be ok..but as for a nub goin in and unhookin ceiling fixures and wires ...it could be kinda tricky ..but u can give it a shot.. remember not to touch both wires at the same time..lol
![]() so what im tryin to say is .....if u have a GFI to replace a light then u would have to bypass ur wall switch if avaible..or u would have a plug on a switch and a GFI if that iv personally never seen a GFI on a switch like as in houses with no celing lights.... captain jack is tottally right tho..it would be best to run a home run to ur main.. then u could just plug everything into it ..me beeing a son of a electrican me and my pops have wired up some nice grow rooms..like from 1 reg house breakers to 3 giant breaker panels i dont even remember how many breakers where in it ..mostly 30 amp 2 enought for a small block in vegas lol
