Afghanica ****the Flying Dutchmen****
OK,,
First off I grew out the whole pack of seeds and usually try to do 2 packs as I don't think that growing just 2 or 3 females gives a good representation of what the strain is all about..It also doesn't leave a good chance of finding that special specimen that is worth keeping and possibly working with.I only grew one pack of these but still usually get 6 to 8 females from 10 seeds.I had 6 of these. These plants grew strong and stout with extra wide leaf blades.Internode spacing was tight and could easily be grown in tight places/small spaces ![]() The plants were all similar although some yeilded much better than the others. The buds were not as dense as I had expected even though they were under several 1000 watt lights.I had figured on getting some hard tight buds but didn't get em'... Resin content was the same way with some looking pretty good and the others were just so-so.Potency was from fair to good, with nothing approaching great. The high was pretty plain and not to exciting. It just had no "soul" IMO....And keeper buds have GOT to have some "soul"!! It just didn't live up to my expectations. I couldn't recommend it to someone looking for that something special. I still plan to try some of their other offerings just not a repeat of this one. Flowering was from 55 to 65 days. A few pics Last edited by Capt. Crip; 12-03-2005 at 06:06 AM.. |

Nice description Capt. Crip.
Thanks for the info. regarding this strain. Even though I never grew this strain out, I probably might have purchased it just to see what's it all about. After reading your report, I know now to skip it and try something else. Thanks for sharing your info. on the strains you've grown TT |

Thanks Capt. I found the non-feminised DP Hempstar to be flat. From a pack I got two females of desired pheno - infact both were ideal in maturation time, shape, yield and taste - the problem is that the smoke is really flat - ie no high. I like a mellow smoke but this is ridiculous for lack of high. I found the Sativa pheno's to be flat also. They have feminised but i'm skeptical.

POd, yeh it is actually quite strong - too strong to DrySieve,BHO,Bubble.
Capt & thread, I'd say it is difficult to taste test (smoke) all the plants in a bigger breeding project. In regard to DP Hempstar, I bet they were surprised when Haze x Skunk x NL created perfect plants in every regard except for the quality of high. I'd say they were too far into the breeding project to start over and released the variety anyway. Breed has since been feminised

Hi Capt, Your opinions mirror mine as far as Afghani is concered. I grew out the Home Grown fantiseeds version. I found it more than mild. The weight was there but the buds were empty. (Huh?) I apreciate a report on strains that don't quite cut it. This forum is for all opinions good and bad. Capt your integrity comes thru by not suger coating the facts.

Smokey
Looks like we had similar experiences with totally different stock.
I agree, you do not have to be nasty nor do you have to kiss ass.I say tell it like it is,but try to be respectful.I would certainly try other TFD strains as they do bigger selections than most. They are good people I just had a bad experience with this strain.Reading about it you would expect a seriously potent plant to show up in the batch.I had plenty of females to show what the strain is about and it was NOT impressive. Hell, theres 2 other strains I grew and will not do reports they were so bad.1 of the 2 I ended up throwing out 3/4 of the way through flower because the quality was so bad. They all had that nasty greeny odor that I hate. That odor is only associated with weak, weak cannabis.I've never grown even a halfassed potent plant with that shitty odor. The stock was from really good people and I have no reason to slam over one strain from this particular company. Take care Smokey and I'll have some more reports up over the next 2 days or so............................ .....CC |
