Maastricht can ban tourists from its marijuana cafes: Says EU court official
"Friday 16 July 2010
The border town of Maastricht should be legally allowed to ban non-Dutch nationals from its marijuana cafes, according to a senior advisor to the European court in Luxembourg. Advocate general Yves Bot said he considers the move necessary to protect public order and reduce the nuisance caused by drugs tourism. In addition, the ban would contribute to European efforts to combat the illegal drugs trade, Bot said in his ruling. The Netherlands highest court, the Council of State, has asked the European court to determine if the Maastricht ban conflicts with EU laws. The Dutch court is currently hearing an appeal by a local cafe owner who was forced to close in 2006 after two non-Dutch nationals were found on his premises. Bot said drugs, including cannabis, are not covered by European rules on free movement and trade. And he pointed out, that the sale of cannabis is illegal in all member states. In the Netherlands the possession of a few grams is ignored but still technically illegal. The European court does not have to follow the advice of its senior legal official but generally does." So is this the beginning of the end for Dutch coffeeshops for tourists? link: https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archive...ly_ban_for.php |

Well, the major reason why weed has no legality status in Holland is because of its extremely whiney neighbours that refuse to take any responsibility for the phenomenon that exists, the cannabis market. Countries like France, Germany and Belgium refuse for whatever reason there is to not allow cannabis to get anyform of legality. And try to force Holland to do the same, even doh 30 years of policy have proven that by creating a market for cannabis, you solve a lot of problems.
It is true that Holland doesn't want any drugtourists, they wanted it to be a more of a social thing like a bar. But since these bars are only in Holland and demand is world wide you get these boring problems. Next to that Maastricht has got really annoying inhabitants that still haven't accepted the fact that a university was founded in their town 40 years ago. The amount of bullshit the local students have to deal with just to have a frat building and what not, is extreme in comparison to any other city in Holland. |
