I thought I would show this to ya's as I've seen a couple of posts asking about computer type fans (axial fans) for cooling and maybe some will find this method useful.

This starts out as a square bodied fan and I grind the corners off, wrap some tin around it and fill the gaps with expanding foam...

I run reflectors with a 6" duct and the fan slips right inside the reflector's duct flange and I just tape it in place with aluminum foil tape...

Then I run the cord up through the inside of the flexable ducting line and out of the room. I run one fan in each light and it works perfect. The fans are 78 cfm each and cool my 2 6oos fine, even in summer. I run the lights in line so one fan is pushing and the other fan pulls. I don't have to seal my glass either as the push-pull equals out any pressure. Whisper quiet as well...

Ha, for those interested, the fan can be found at Grainger if the keywords "dayton 78 cfm axial fan" are used...=)

That is awesome GroNut, very original, and effective too

Check out this inline fan I made for 4" duct using a 4" radio shack fan, not to high-jack or anything, just another option for people who aren't running 6" duct.

About how much do those dayton fans cost? it looks close to the same size as the fan I used. Thanks

Cascading Green, I did get em from Grainger, guess you found them. I have seen some at Radio Shack but I don't know the size or specs of those.

cemchris, I'm not sure if they will get a 1k as cool as you want. When my lights have been on for hours I can put the top of my hand on the glass right under the bulb and it feels warm, not hot. They may do 1ks fine.

SmokeAndBeKind, that duct fan is killer. I've used duct booster fans before and they don't handle any static pressure where the axails keep moving air even with some resistance, super quiet too. The Daytons run about $40 each from Grainer. They are 6" fans and won't fit into the hood flange without grinding the corners off.
