Question opinions on this camera i might buy...

i came across a nikon D1 DSLR for 149$ USD would this be suitable to use for macro images? and would one of those 25-35$ filter kits for sale on ebay/amazon work? aslong as 1 calyx or small leaf fits in the frame thats close enough for me and be able to tell if trichs are cloudy/amber/clear and such.....thanks guys

Durka welcome to IC..great to see you have a chance to upgrade. I found a review of the camera here: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond1/
After reading the review I was surprise how well the author liked it. Sounds like a winer. But..you did not mention what lens comes with the one you are looking at so that leaves many unanswered questions. For macro pix you'll need a good specialty lens. May I suggest you beware of a deal that sounds to good to be true. The retail price for this baby, BODY ONLY, is over $5,000 bucks and you can get one for $150.00..really? DD

Durka..those bellows, we still have not heard from you exactly what lens you have? I have used screw on close up lenses like the macro ones you posted. I'm have not used the macro screw on ones so I can not comment on them. Make sure you get the right size screw on lens to fit your other camera lens. A bit of advice..it takes a lot of shooting, practice, and many images to get good macros. The lighting, technique, camera shake, and lenses used all play a big part. I have been shooting over 40 years and only achieve what I consider good macros every so often. I don't want to scare you off, but what I'm saying is, after buying the kit, start working, and don't be discouraged. You'll get better with time and have tons of fun durring the process. Read up on some websites various techniques, Google "getting good macros", and Good luck, I really look forward to seeing your pix..DD

Hi Durka!
The D1 suffers from some really bad problems regarding color correction solutions.
I would avoid it if possible. Perhaps a D1h or D1x? By then they had color spaces and correction down pretty good.

DoobieDuck, The D1 is 3 generations old, and being the crudest of the Nikon Pro models is probably worth only $150.00. It had some serious problems, color correction and battery managment being the two worst. The D2 series (D2x and D2H) are averaging between $750.00- $1500.00 depending on the particular model. The D3 series are the current models now commanding the full $$$ of near $5,000.00.

P.S....
I would seriously look at KEH.com for reliable, cheap Nikon DSLR bodies.

I believe that Hempguy. I looked at a review at Fredmiranda.com originally and did not check what year it was posted. DD

Hey Doobieduck,

No problem, here.
Just didn't want the O.P. to buy the D1 thinking it was the cat's pajamas when it is actually more like sandpaper underwear.

Keep on Keep'n on bro!
