Jumping into The Mix :tiphat:
I'm new here in the Dutchgrown forum- hello to everyone! This is my VERY first time popping seeds. I chose to go with Dutchgrown for many reasons, most importantly for her enthusiasm and the consideration for others she's shown in this forum.
I got 10 seeds of the "Select Mix" (sweetest cindy99, oger99, and dieselrella). As a bonus from seedbay, I got a 5 pack of Critical + feminized seeds. I'm feeling so lucky! It's all too good to be true. ![]() Since this is all so new to me, I'm only growing 4 of the DG seeds for now. I wish I could do more; and I know I'm really stacking the odds against myself. I have a 15 plant limit with 6 currently finishing. I've got a few of my mentor's "no-name" strain in their 2nd week of cloning, plus one of his clones that's 4 weeks old. I also planted 2 of the "critical +" feminized seeds to hedge my bets further. Its SOOO tempting to exceed those plant limits, but I'm going to make them work the best I can. I'm going to try a new grow method for the first time also- Ebb & Gro buckets. My mentor had taken me under his wing a couple of years ago and had taught me his method of growing a pretty decent strain in 2 gal. pots of rockwool flock. I've had a little success (more failures), and I want to try something different. I know now that Ebb & Gro is not ideal when dealing with multiple strains, but that is first lesson I learned on this grow before it even began. I have 2 lights so that will help a little. I would probably be a good grower by now if I didn't decide to change everything around all of the time. I do it only in pursuit of perfection and enjoyment! My game has improved 10-fold since I found ICmag. That puts my skill level at about 25% of where I want it to be. I've tossed more than half of my last grow that I screwed up and have 6 still alive and finishing for 3 more weeks if they don't die first! I might run out of medicine if I don't pull a rabbit out of a hat soon. I know what mistakes I've made and have learned a lot! Funeral's over!! I am here to learn and have fun. ANY feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope this is my lucky grow! I've got 2 1000 HPS sealed lights, a large room, dehumidifier, and an air conditioner. I've finally got things fairly in tune regarding climate control. Now, I'm hoping to have some of the finest genetics in the world. So, the tools are in my hands!! Here are the DG seeds. I think I got all 3 strains in the mix, but I'm not sure. The larger one set aside by itself has more solid stripes and is bigger than the other 3 big ones, which are kind of blotchy. I've named that big girl "Melon" for the time being. I saw a picture recently and I'm GUESSING she's a Dieselrella. ![]() I planted "Melon" along with 2 of the big girls and one of the small girls. I'm referring to them as girls in practice of positive thinking. I also planted 2 of the Critical + feminized seeds. Here they are, sleeping quietly: ![]() These are in the small rockwool starter cubes. The cubes were pre-soaked in PH 5.5 and a little Canna Rhizotonic. I dropped them sideways down the pre-made hole in the cube and gently pinched the top surface closed. I gave them each a few drops of PH'd water before placing them in my little chamber at about 77F with pretty good air circulation. The first to say hello were the 2 big Dutchgrown seeds. This one labeled B2 broke daylight in less that 42 hours. I'm amazed with delight. ![]() After only a few days, ALL of my friends had shown up to the party! I told you I was feeling lucky!! ![]() After the first seed sprouted I added another 62 wat cfl bulb to the chamber to brighten things up a little. But, they still look a little leggy to me. The one labeled B2 is a little crooked because a small fan fell from the bright skies and nearly landed on her! It had been blowing directly on her and her friends for at least a few hours. Sorry ladies... Here's how things look today, almost 7 days since I planted them: ![]() |

What a very nice start.
And very nice of you to do your grow of these here for all to ride along with you. Only through trying different things, yes failing some along the way, will someone truly find a well rounded level of understanding applicable to growing this specific plant. The best advice I can give you is to listen to your plants...keeping a keen and watchful eye on them...they will never fail to communicate, is up to the grower's acquired skills to apply the appropriate response. You have things off to a good start, keep it up! ![]() What I see from your post is someone who is knowledgable and has the motivation to carry things to a successful completion. ![]() Thank you for your kindness and interest in DG Seeds....I'll check in from time to time to see your progress, and wish nothing but the best grow ever for you with these, and into the future. ![]() DG |

16 Days Update
Thanks a lot for stopping by DG and Uncle, I'm humbled to say the least and I appreciate the encouragement!
Well, I've managed to keep things going for another week. At day 7 the roots were starting to show through the bottom of the starter cubes so I transplanted them into pre-soaked 5.5 PH 4” rockwool cubes. This one had the most prolific root: ![]() ![]() Next time I'll germinate in the ROUND rockwool starters so they'll easily slip into the 4" blocks at transplant instead of having to cut the round hole to make it square. I'll be placing these into hydroton later. I watered them with some Canna Aqua A&B and 15 mil per gallon of Canna Rhizotonic to a total of 330ppm / .62 EC, including my 75 ppm tap water at 7.6 PH; all PH’d to 5.8. Here they are at 16 days old: ![]() ![]() ABOVE: On the left we have my friend Melon. She was the biggest and nicest looking seed in the mix. She was the last to pop, but is now the biggest. "S" is from the group of similar-sized, smaller seeds in the mix pack. ![]() ABOVE: "B1" and "B2" were similar seeds in the mix pack as well. They were bigger than the small seeds, but not as big as my girl I named Melon. At 14 days, I bumped the nutes to 460 ppm including the rhizo too. If I’m reading the Canna Aqua feeding schedule correctly, it states to feed at 630-840 ppm, .9 to 1.2 EC in the “Start Root Formation” stage of +/- 1 week. The tops of the 4” cubes are getting some heavy algae, but I’m almost ready in a couple of days to start vegging them in my new ebb & gro under the big lights. I had bought some white cube covers but they look as though they are sharp-edged and may damage the fragile seedling stems so I never used them. I think I have a basic grasp of the Canna feeding schedule and feel fairly confident in using my meter. But, I don’t yet know how to “read” my plants or “listen” to what they are telling me. But I’m going to try and learn. How should I plan for the feeding of these different strains? My initial game plan is to stay in the lower range of the Canna feeding schedule and see what the plants have to say about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My "near-failure" last crop finished a week early due to stress from overwatering. I'm glad to get it out of there and start fresh. It was basically 4 months of effort and money; only to watch 10 of the 14 ladies die in the last few weeks of flower. I'm tempted to actually calculate my cost per gram on that run, but I'd probably have a heart atack. I've been working hard getting set-up for the new Ebb & Gro 12 bucket system and I'm nearly finished. I have some clones of my normal strain that will be joining them at about the same time. I'm a legal MMJ patient with a 15 plant limit. These should be going under the two 1000 watt lights in the next few days. Since I've had lighting transition problems before, I'm going to be very careful and expose them slowly over a couple of days. Oh, I almost forgot. I caught some interesting smells on two of them while doing a little leaf rubbing. I'm a terrible smeller, but I know I smelled Mango. The other one I'm not so sure about- maybe greasy chicken?? I know... It's still a ways off until I can open my presents. I'm so excited. I have been smoking the SAME strain of cannabis for 15 years! |

Is she trying to tell me something?
This is the smallest seed out of the DGS mix, I call her "S". I think she is trying to tell me something:
Her leaves are getting a kind of blotchy discoloration. I don't think it's from the 62 watt CFL. Canopy temp is at 75F with good air circulation. Should I be doing something different? I had been watering them at 330 ppm and upped them to 460 ppm just a couple of days ago (Milwaukee .68 conversion meter. Oh, Oh, I just re-read the Canna feed chart and it says I should be ADDING my 70 ppm tap water to their recommendation instead of INCLUDING it when mixing my solution. So it looks like I might not be feeding them enough according to Canna Aqua's recommended 630-840 ppm for the "Start Root Formation" stage. They all have roots showing at the bottom of the 4" rockwool cubes. So, do you think they are they ready for 630+ ppm? |

Canna Aqua? Are you growing in a recirculating system now? I ask because your pics don't indicate they are in this sort of system at the moment, and possibly should be receiving Canna Substra until they actually go into a recirculating system.
Canna Aqua: CANNA Aqua is the nutrient that has been specifically developed for the use in combination closed hydroponic systems, like NFT or Bubbler systems. With these systems the drainage water isn’t removed but is reused. Canna Substra: CANNA Substra is the nutrient for systems in which the drainage water is not returned to the nutrient tank but drains away (Run-to-Waste / Open hydroponic systems): the most popular cultivation method in the Netherlands and CANNA Substra is the nutrient that is most used for this system. If you are hand watering PRIOR to starting them into a recirculating system then you should not be using Canna Aqua yet. More info please!

These are going into the recirculating system in just a couple of days. I'm still growing my mothers in rockwool flock so I'm going to pick up some Substra. THANK YOU!!! |
