Have you guys heard about the discussions going on between the liberals and the NDP? Allegedly, some of the discussions include addressing the possibility of the two parties merging to form the liberal democrats. Big news! What do you guys think?

Ya hopefully they do form a coalition, It would make for a very progressive mix. The Liberals are always left of center when they form the official opposition and move decidedly to the right when in power. This would help to balance the NDP which do the opposite.
They better get off their asses and make it happen or we are in for another minority with the Con;s

I agree that focusing our efforts against the Conservatives would be a very positive thing. I'm just surprised that this is being considered. The initiative is receiving support from past Liberal leaders like Chretien.

Ya it almost seems uncanadian. But I think thats because we have been living through a time of real social restructuring under the neo cons. You know, with them everything is either white or black no room for compromise, which is, or at least was, the very bases of our culture. I mean shit, we as canada were founded by the two most obstinate nations in the world, the Brits and French LOL something had to give.

Hahah, you're right. Our nation was founded on compromise and understanding...for better or for worse! Hopefully this combined with the heat the cons are getting for the G8 and G20 budgets will cause the other parties to get bold and go after them.

This could potentially have exciting implications for all of us in North America. If this could coincide with the November ballot in California decriminalization or even legalization could become a hot topic here if the Liberal/NDP conglomerate looks to differentiate themselves from the conservatives to get more votes. If that were to happen, I could see the trend spreading to other states putting further pressure on the feds in the U.S. to confront the failures of prohibition. Getting wayyy ahead of myself, but however slight, there is a possibility of this happening.
