info about how your seeds become female?
hello and greetings female seeds!!! guineapig here.....
i am in the midst of a quest for knowledge from different breeders concerning the production of "female" or "feminized" seeds. i have read many many positive reviews from different growers who produce wonderful results with your seeds. your new crosses look awesome and are sought after by cannabis connoiseurs with whom i have chatted. is it possible that you could let me (and the IC community) know just a little bit about how your seeds become female? could you tell us about your research with all the various methods of feminization and how you arrived at your current techniques? some people out there are a bit skeptical when it comes to the production of "feminized" seeds so i am sure a brief comment would be tremendously helpful. if you have already provided such a post i apologize and perhaps you could point me to that thread. thank you very much, kind regards from Guineapig

Cant speak for FS and im no expert on this (although I am a plant scientist) but from what I have learnt there are several methods out there to produce feminized seed and only one I know of to produce true female seed although imsure there are more. This isn't all the facts but its all true to my knowledge.
Soma and I assume ferry use a process known as rodelisation to produce feminized seed, this takes advantage of the fact that the pollen from a selected hermaphrodite female plant will be mostly genetically female. This means that using this pollen on a selected female plant of the same strain will produce feminized seed. Unfortunately seeds produced this way tend to have hermaphrodite genetics in there and so there is always a risk. However, as with skunk special from FS, you may get some hermies but the male flowers I had were all sterile. Good selection and breeding can minimise the effects of this although I fear commercial growers will always be wary. The way to produce true female seed is more complex, you need a completely true breeding female plant, that is it has XX and no hermie genes at all what so ever. You then have to spray with gibereliic acid at a certain very precise point in flowering. The type of GA, concentration, carrier substance and spray time are all crucial factors in getting your pure female plant to change into a pure female that produces male flowers and 100% female pollen. This pollen can then be used to back cross with different females of the same plant or with itself to get 99.9% female seeds. The processes involved aren't that complicated, however I think the secrets are the timing and formulation of GA application, and the ability to select the right plants for the job, which involves a whole host of skills, from recognising good plants to knowing people with the genetics |
