Various Parties policy on MJ in The Republic
Since the Liberal Democrats are now in coalition with the Conservatives as a result of the recent UK election I thought I'd check out their policies on MJ
Adopting a policy of not prosecuting possession for own use, social supply to adults or cultivation of cannabis plants for own use. Repealing Sections 8 (c) and (d) of the Misuse of Drugs Act so that it is no longer a crime for the occupier or manager of premises to permit someone to use cannabis on those premises. Personally I think the Northern Ireland assembly would go mental if this happened and pass a law keeping it illegal (can they do this?). What the situation with the southern political parties, any movement on this issue? I can't ever see it moving away from the current situation in either part of Ireland - the various churches have too much influence. I hope I'm wrong Dr. LittleDeath

I couldn't see Martin McGuinness or Sinn Féin as a whole letting such a law go through in the 6 Counties, McGuinness doesn't drink, smoke, or use drugs and frowns upon women in mini skirts lol, He's very old fashioned. The Medical Marijuana scene needs to be focused on before we get such freedom IMO.

With the DUP and Sinn Fein running the show up here I can't see them ever taking the step of allowing it. The Westminster government legislates primarily for England and Wales and separately for Scotland and N. Ireland (e.g. we are the only part of the UK where abortion is still illegal). If it was legalised up here I presume The Republic would kick up about the possibility of "drug tourism". I follow politics in the south to a certain degree (my mother is southern) but I haven't a clue of their drug policies. I presume the booze industry would be against it as well as it would dent their sales.
The Guardian and Observer newspapers on a semi regular basis print articles asking for a complete overhaul of drug laws. I think it will happen at some point, but who knows when? Certainly the tax from legalised MJ sales would be useful. Dr. LittleDeath

More chance of legislation being tightened up than loosened with a Tory PM.
