Considering LED's for my new micro cab. Few Questions.

Hey there,

I'm sure there has been a billion questions about these LED's already. I'm sorry if any of my questions have been asked before. I'll continue searching, but I'm making this post so I can hear some advice, feedback, etc.

The reason I'm debating these LED's is, well.. they just look plain cool. I have always been a HID grower (for flower), and I like to try new things out. I like to give everything a try at least once. As of right now, I have not made the 100% decision to get an LED for this little cab I'll be building, but I'm strongly considering it.

A little background, I've been a cab grower for quite a long time now. I have 2 cabinets. A flower cab with a 400w cooltube HPS, and a veg cab covered with floro tubes. My other flower cab is a bit larger, and I'm interested in building a new cab just for fun. I was thinking of looking at alternative growing souces. I'll be running the 400w cooltube also, but I would like another small flower cab for select strains. Heck.. I might use it as a breeding cabinet. Keep the pollen away from the main flowering cab. The rooms would be completely seperate of course to avoid cross contamination.

Anyway, here are a few questions I have. Please excuse me if they have been asked a million times, I'm just trying to keep all my questions in one thread. I'll edit my post if I find the answer to any of these questions.

1. Can you successfully veg with LED's? I'm sure you could, but I wanted a little feedback on someones veg experience under LED's. I have a veg cab to make up for this.

2. Heat? I believe I read already that LED's produce very little heat. I can keep the temps between 78-82 F, so having temps be to low is not an issue.

3. Noise? I believe I read our LED-Lady tell someone else its around 45 db. I believe that is perfect for a cab, considering I have been running a couple 265 cfm exhaust fans.

4. Duration? How long are these lights good for? I believe I replaced a HID bulb after every 3-4ish flowers.

5. Will exhaust effect this system negatively? Will it lower the temps to much? I need to exhaust into a scrubber to keep that smell down. Of course I could use a smaller fan. Temps on average are 78-82 F. I believe I read 80 is best for this system?

6. Which light do you recommend for this setup?

36'' tall
17'' deep
24'' wide

I believe I'll just be running a SCROG setup. I'd like to get some good penetration down into that screen.

Some good questions. I am also starting up a new cab about the same size as yours 30Wx24Dx32H. I have been doing some reading on led grows and am on the verge of getting me one. I will be splitting my box in half with the front half a veg chamber and back half for flowering. probably just 3 plants in a SCROG setup as u mentioned. So Ill be watching for what answers you get!

Oh HELL yes.... You will get tighter internode spacing and incredibly dense vegetative growth. I promise. I've not failed to have stout dense bushes with my LED grows.

What heat? In my closed cab, with a 126W unit, I rarely went above 85F, and actually the range you are capable of maintaining (perhaps a couple of degrees higher) is perfect for LED growing.

So quiet you can barely hear them. I snore much louder.

80 to 82F is good. If you need to vent/scrub then do so. Try your best to maintain that temperature.

If venting and being able to maintain temperatures aren't an issue, I'd go with a 126W unit, especially if you plan on stuffing multiple plants under a scrog.

All this said, you will surely have to tweak your growing techniques to maximize yields, however, scrogging and maintaining the 80-83F range is a great start. Hope this helped!
