Post How To Use Medical Cannabis

Initial primary article Source:
is the website of the "Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana" (W.A.M.M.*)
WAMM has emerged as a unique model, a patient self-help alliance, and an alternative to the inflated prices of an illicit black market.
The medical marijuana is dispersed to all patients, at no charge.

I have MUCH RESPECT and I do salute WAMM's
"patient self-help alliance" and its no charge dispensary distribution model to the verified seriously ill in ones local community.

A great tried and true traditional concept at work, fellow neighbors helping their fellow neighbors get through a tough period in their life's. IMB
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The following information regarding medical marijuana has been derived from experience.
You may find some of it will be of benefit.

Many people experience different effects, just as is true with any medication.
Temper your use and consider that marijuana is another form of medicine that might serve to alleviate some of the symptoms of your illness and may enhance other aspects.
How it benefits you is what is important.

Tell your doctor that you use medical marijuana and make sure this fact is entered into your medical records.
Informed doctors can better serve patients.

Smoking:

The most expedient method of using medical marijuana is to smoke it.

The effects are more controllable in this form and experienced within moments.
Inhaling smoke is a concern. We recommend a vaporizer...

Eating:

Another method of using medical marijuana is ingestion.
It can be baked directly or made into butter that is used to prepare foodstuffs.
You must be aware that It takes considerably longer to experience the effects.
Occasionally a patient may feel of uneasy (refer to section on Uneasiness). Another feeling may be of weight or heaviness, or perhaps even grogginess. It is appropriate to allow time to rest in order to assess how you will respond. Remember that every batch of baked goods will vary with the potency of the marijuana leaf that is used.

Teas:

Teas can be made from water or milk, soy, seed, nut or rice milk. The active ingredients are oil soluble. If you prefer to drink tea made from water then be certain to 'notice' the oil floating on the top of the tea. This method takes a few minutes if a flower top is being used, it may be saved and used on another occasion. Otherwise let the tea steep for 1-2 hours and add a tsp. of butter. The effects vary so begin by steeping for a short time period, increasing as needed.

Using milk requires an all day cooking period, or overnight (no less than 2 hours) if you have a crock pot. Add a cup of 'milk' (you can use soy milk or nut milk) and 2 heaping tbls. of marijuana leaf flour to the container, simmer on a low heat. You can take your "milk" with you in a thermos or reheat.

Compress:

Make the preparation as you would tea made with water, or the tincture made with vodka.
Thoroughly soak a compress in the mixture and apply directly to affected area.
Allow the compress to remain for at least a half hour.
Compresses are often used to alleviate the pain.

Tincture:

Preparing a tincture with vodka can be used topically, sublingually or internally.

Tincture Recipe: You will need:

A glass jar- 1 liter mason jar is ideal but any size will do.
3 parts ground marijuana. Leaf bud or shake.
4 parts high proof alcohol. Everclear or Vodka.
To make the Tincture:
Fill jar ¾ full of herb
Fill rest of jar with alcohol; leave some room at top stir.
Shake jar one or two times a day for 2 weeks.
Strain through metal tea strainer or silkscreen.
You can use whatever kind of clean glass, not plastic, jar you have with a tight lid.
One-quart/liter mason jars are ideal. Grind the herb thoroughly in a blender.
It should be well ground but doesn’t have to be a powder.
You can use leaf, bud, shake, joint leftover, or stems.
Too many stems will wreck your blender and a weaker tincture.
Leaf work fine but for higher potency use shake or bud.

Fill the jar ¾ full of herb; it does not have to be exact.
You can use anywhere from ½ to 2/3 part herb but ¾ will make a full strength tincture.
Use the highest proof alcohol you can, Everclear, which is 180 proof, but hard to find.
So just use the highest proof Vodka you can find.
Pour alcohol over the herb, filling the rest of the jar.
Leave just enough space (an inch or so) at the top so that you will be able to shake the jar.
Stir the mixture; the herb will absorb some of the alcohol so you may need to add more.
Put the lid on tightly; label the contents and the date you started.
It takes two weeks for the alcohol to extract all the active elements from the herb.

Shake the jar once or twice a day for 2 weeks.

The alcohol will rise to the top and a deep green/red color will develop.
After 2 weeks of aging you can strain the tincture through a metal tea strainer or a silk screen into a small tincture bottle with a dropper.
You can leave the rest in the jar if you want, it will age and mellow in flavor and you can strain off as much as you want at a time.
Alcohol is a strong preservative it will hold for a long time, be careful when handling the tincture, it satins and will turn everything it comes in contact with green.
Use Ultra Palmolive anti-bacterial dish soap*, the orange kind, to clean the glass, metal or other ceramic utensils, (do not use plastic) sinks and counter tops (*it works best at dissolving THC residue.)

Dosage varies per individual but start with half a dropper dissolved in hot tea or water.
Hot tea will dissipate some of the alcohol and activate the THC a bit.
It can be taken straight but may burn the tongue and has a very strong herbal taste.
Enjoy and be well.

Marinol:
Marinol, a pill made up of marijuana's most psychoactive ingredient, THC, is available by prescription.
This synthetic petrochemical analog' is made up of only one of the over 400 components found in the whole marijuana plant.

Some patients say this costly synthetic form aids in the relief of nausea. Patients have reported that it can take up to an hour to feel the effects of the drug.
Marinol has potential for overdose and must only be used under the supervision of a physician.

For some patients, Marinol works.
But for others, this highly potent synthetic drug is too much, "knocking out" many patients shortly after taking the pill.

Marinol also does not stimulate appetite as well as whole marijuana commonly does.

Marinol is also expensive -- as much as $30,000 a year for one patient's prescription!

Side Effects:

Marijuana use has been recorded to date back as far as 5,000 years (there has never been a single death attributed to the use of marijuana).
If you are unfamiliar with its use then you should know that occasionally undesirable side effects might occur.
Being informed can aid in more effective use of this herbal remedy.

* Uneasiness - Often marijuana has a soothing and comforting effect.
On occasion some patients will experience feelings of anxiety instead of or in conjunction with a sense of heightened awareness. Should this anxiousness occur, there are several approaches for resolve. First remember that there is no place that you can go in your body that you can not get back from. Try to use marijuana when you are in a comfortable and secure environment. Lie down and relax. If you are with a friend or caregiver then ask your friend to keep eye contact with you. Request that they call you back to focus on the eyes, do not let your gaze wander, stay focused on the eyes. If you are alone, try looking into a mirror. If you are with your loved ones an embrace might be helpful. Sometimes we feel nervous about breaking the law, or doing the "wrong" thing. There is no shame in alleviating suffering. Not too many years ago anesthesia was against the law. It was believed that if God didn't want us to suffer, then we would not feel pain.

* Hunger - Often marijuana will induce hunger. For many patients this is of great benefit and aids in weight gain. Try to eat nourishing food. If this is not an effect that particularly appeals to you, then drink a glass of water or juice when you crave the food.

* Thirst

* Drowsiness - The same warning that applies to any medication that may cause drowsiness also applies to marijuana. If you feel tired then rest. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery or anything that might endanger the well being of you or anyone else.

* Insomnia - Some patients find that they can not sleep after using marijuana or that the mind is active. Should this occur try reducing your dosage and avoid using prior to going to bed. Incorporating meditation or quiet time is useful at times like this.

* Short-Term Memory Loss - Some patients find it difficult to carry out complicated tasks or conversations, keeping track of details or learning new information. Schedule your time so that you can benefit from the use of marijuana and not be hindered by its effects. Long term memory will not be affected.

* Red Eyes - This effect will not hurt you. Wear sunglasses or use a saline solution if you feel it is absolutely necessary

* Giddiness - Sometimes marijuana can bring on a feeling of euphoria. Again it may be necessary to adjust your schedule so that happiness will not interfere with your activities.
A good laugh can be a powerful remedy!

Post Phytoinhalation= non burning ingestion of active principles

The usual irritating and toxic breakdown products of burning utilized with smoking are totally avoided with vaporization.
Extraction and inhaling cannabinoid essential oils below ignition temperature of both crude and refined cannabis products affords significant mitigation of irritation to the oral cavity, and tracheobronchial tree from pyrollytic breakdown products.

Why Cannabis Vaporization?
https://www.canorml.org/healthfacts/vaporizers.html

Vaporization is a technique for avoiding irritating respiratory toxins in marijuana smoke by heating cannabis to a temperature where the psychoactive ingredients evaporate without causing combustion.

Laboratory studies by California NORML and MAPS have found that vaporizers can efficiently deliver cannabinoids while eliminating or drastically reducing other smoke toxins.

Like tobacco, marijuana smoke contains toxins that are known to be hazardous to the respiratory system. Among them are the highly carcinogenic polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, a prime suspect in cigarette-related cancers. These toxins are essentially a byproduct of combustion, separate from the pharmaceutically active components of marijuana, known as cannabinoids, which include THC. Although there is no proof that marijuana smoking causes cancer, chronic pot smokers have been shown to suffer an elevated risk of bronchitis and respiratory infections. Respiratory disease due to smoking may therefore rightly be regarded as the primary physiological hazard of marijuana.

Cannabis vaporizers are designed to let users inhale active cannabinoids while avoiding harmful smoke toxins. They do so by heating cannabis to a temperature of 180 - 200° C (356° - 392° F), just below the point of combustion where smoke is produced. At this point, THC and other medically active cannabinoids are emitted with little or none of the carcinogenic tars and noxious gases found in smoke. Many medical marijuana patients who find smoked marijuana highly irritating report effective relief inhaling through vaporizers. Users who are concerned about the respiratory hazards of smoking are strongly advised to use vaporizers. Alternative devices, such as waterpipes, have been shown to be ineffective at reducing the tars in marijuana smoke.

Thumbs up

Types of Vaporizer

Current vaporizers available work in one of two ways:

* Conduction, where heat is transmitted to your herb through contact with something hot.

* Convection, where heat is transmitted to your herb by heated air flowing over it.

Conduction vaporizers are usually considered inferior as only the part of the herb in contact with the hot surface will get heated.
This means that a large proportion will NOT get hot enough for the essential oil to evaporate fast enough to be effective.
To get round this rather large design flaw, the temperature is increased.
While heating the rest of the herb up high enough can be achieved through this, the part in contact with the hot surface will be overheated (occasionally to the point of combustion) thus negating the point of vaporising in the first place.

These are commonly referred to as 'soldering-iron' vaporizers because most models appear to use a soldering iron element with a bowl on top to put the herb in.
If the vaporiser look like a heated stick in a jar, its probably one of these.

Convection vaporizers are much better because heated air can flow all the way around all parts of the herb.
This ensures equal heating, and consequently more complete vaporisation.
As long as hot air flows through the herb and there are essential oils left to vaporise, it will continue giving off vapor.

Convection vaporizers are more expensive because they are usually thermostatically controlled.
It is also more difficult to heat a flow of air to a constant temperature because there are more variables eg. speed of air, air temperature before being heated, etc....

Post Using Medical Cannabis?

Damn, I'm glad you were doing it right too.
Be well.
.............................. .............................. .............................. ..........
Smokeless Medicine
By Jay R. Cavanaugh, PhD
August 2002

One of the major criticisms of cannabis as medicine is the idea that it must be smoked.
The vast majority of physicians and health care workers have been trained to discourage smoking wherever possible as part of the campaign against tobacco.

While smoked cannabis is not nearly as harmful as smoked tobacco it is important to recognize that there are both benefits and risks to smoking as a route of administration.
The primary risk is respiratory inflammation including bronchitis.
Much of the cannabis currently available is rather crude and produces a hot smoke that can irritate delicate lung tissues and aggravate existing respiratory problems.
These problems alone are enough for the majority of physicians to refrain from recommending cannabis as medicine.
Arguments detailing the expectorant, anti respiratory pathogen effect, and anti neoplasm effects of cannabis are insufficient for physicians and many patients to feel comfortable with smoking medicine.

The benefit from smoking as a route of administration is instant action and the ability of the patient to self titrate the dose needed for relief.
Here we describe how patients can achieve similar quick acting relief and the ability to control dose without smoking.
It is important that the medical community understand that whole cannabis products are available today that provide significant relief without smoking.
We don’t have to wait for a pharmaceutical pill to be developed years in the future in order to have the benefits of cannabis.
The present pill (Marinol) has proven very unsatisfactory due to a long delay of action time, poor absorption in the GI tract, and its failure to include many of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory cannabinoids present in whole cannabis and its extracts.
In addition, future pharmaceuticals will be wildly expensive.

There are two major and one minor method of achieving the aims of quick action and dose control.

The first is the use of cannabis tinctures.

Tinctures are not new. Until cannabis was banned in 1937, tinctures were the primary type of cannabis medicines.
Tinctures are essentially alcohol extractions of whole cannabis (usually the flowers and trim leaves).
Tinctures are easy to make and very inexpensive (see: https://www.letfreedomgrow.com/recipes/tincture.htm).
Tinctures contain all 60 of the essential cannabinoids instead of only one with Marinol.
Some of the cannabinoids such as cannibidiol (CBD) actually reduce the psychoactive effects of THC while increasing the overall efficacy of the preparation.

The best way to use tinctures is sublingually (under the tongue).

Titration or dose control is easily achieved by the number of drops a patient places under the tongue where the medicine is rapidly absorbed into the arterial system and is quickly transported to the brain and body. All a patient need do with tincture is use a few drops, wait for the desired medical effects, and either use more or stop as the situation indicates. Tinctures can be flavored for better taste. They are best stored in dark bottles in the refrigerator. Since tinctures average some 75% ethanol there is little worry of bacterial or other biological contamination. Those who wish to avoid alcohol can instead use their tincture as a base for making a concentrated elixir (see: https://www.letfreedomgrow.com/recipes/elixir.htm). While elixir is absorbed into the venous system via the GI tract it is still reasonably quick acting if used on an empty stomach. Elixir is usually made with honey and tastes good. It can be used by the teaspoon either alone or in a beverage of choice like tea.

The second (and newer) major method of non smoking cannabis delivery are vaporizers.
All vaporizers essentially use a controlled heating element that raises the temperature of whole cannabis samples (flowers) just to the point where the cannabinoids vaporize.
There is no combustion with vaporization and no chemical conversion from heat.
There is no hot smoke to irritate the lungs and no annoying combustion byproducts.

Vaporizing is far more efficient in delivering medicine than smoking so in the long run "vaping" is far cheaper than smoking as well as much healthier.
Just as with smoking, a patient inhales a dose of vapor and waits one or two minutes to evaluate the effect.
Patients can use only that amount that is necessary for the relief of symptoms. An added benefit of vaporizing is that there is little cannabis odor when vaping which can be important for both security reasons and general decorum.
There are a wide variety of vaporizer systems that vary greatly in ease of use and cost.

Here are links to some of the major vaporizers that our readers say work best for them:

The third method of delivering smokeless medicine is through food products. The downside of oral delivery is the same as with pills like Marinol. Absorption in the GI tract is slow and variable. It is much more difficult to achieve quick action but the plus side is that while the onset is far slower than tincture or vaping (20-60 minutes versus 1-2 minutes) the effects are more long lasting (4-12 hours versus 1-4 hours). Oral cannabis is an excellent way to maintain consistent cannabinoid levels. These levels can be therapeutic without being psychotropic although eating too much in the way of cannabis based food products can produce long lasting and rather intense "highs" unless one understands the potency of the food products. The best way to deliver whole cannabis orally is for patients and/or caregivers to first make "cannabutter" (see: https://www.letfreedomgrow.com/recipe...bud_butter.htm) or "canny" oil (see: https://www.letfreedomgrow.com/recipe..._ends_well.htm) which is then used in baked products or other food dishes.

Many of today’s medical cannabis patients utilize vaporizers, tinctures, and oral cannabis food products. Some patients have never smoked (either cannabis or cigarettes) and don’t have to in order to obtain the full benefit of cannabis medicine. Other patients maintain basic cannabinoid levels with tincture or food products and then only smoke when they experience acute distress from their illness. These patients could just as easily vaporize for these acute episodes.

Thus, inexpensive, healthy, and effective methods of cannabis drug delivery exist today. Patients and physicians do not have to wait for "better" delivery systems. Patients and caregivers are very adept at producing standardized and consistent products with known effects. While progress can and should be made in characterizing and researching cannabis medicines, they are available today for the relief of a wide range of illnesses and disorders.

Hemp Seed & Nutrition

"Cannabis seeds"

traditionally called 'hempseed', contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life.
No other single plant source provides complete protein nutrition in such an easily digestible form, nor has the oils essential to life in as perfect a ratio for human health and vitality.
Hempseed is the richest source in the plant kingdom of essential fatty acids." - Lynn Osburn, researcher

Hemp the 'useful fibre' (Cannabis Sativa) was first brought to Britain by the Romans 2000 years ago.
Modern science has identified Hemp seed oil as nature's richest source of "Essential Fatty Acids", (EFA').

There are 45 nutrients that humans can't live without, and which their bodies cannot manufacture; 21 minerals, 13 vitamins, eight amino acids and two Essential fatty acids.

No single food has them all, but Hemp seed has all eight amino acids and the oil pressed from the hemp seed is one of the best known sources of the two Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) we can't live without;
Omega 3 AIpha-Linolenic Acid and Omega 6 Liholeic Acid, and is more than 90 per cent unsaturated.

EFA's are as vital to human life as vitamins and minerals. Nutritionists refer to these polyunsaturates as "Vitamin K " and commonly recommend EFA's for lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyeride levels.

They also play an important role in reducing heart disease and stroke risk.
They improve cell growth, organ function, vitality, mental state, and enhance thought processes with the transportation of oxygen, electrons and energy throughout our bodies.

Linseed or 'flax' oil has previously been seen as a good source, containing both omega-3 and omega-6 fats.
However, nutritionists believe the best ratio is three times as much omega-6 as omega-3, and the only oil containing that is hemp.

Hemp seed oil is also a source of vitamins A and E which are powerful antioxidants (anti toxin/free radicals).

The protein in hemp seed is very similar to the protein in human blood plasma.
It is therefore easy to digest.
This is good news for those who have problems with cows milk and or soya beans.
Hemp seed does not contain the anti-nutrient trypsin inhibitors found in soya milk.

Acre for acre, hemp is a more economical source of protein than livestock. It can be grown without the use of pesticides and with little or no fertiliser.
Unlike soybeans, hemp is resistant to UV-B light which is big news if you are a farmer.

It is legal to use hempseed for food and body care purposes in the UK. To grow hemp as a farmer in the UK requires a licence which is now fairly easy to achieve.

Other health uses of hemp seed:

• Linoleic acid, found in 50 per cent of hemp seed oil, has been clinically proven to have anti-inflammatory properties.

• When applied directly, the oil is beneficial for post laser-treatment or peeled, stressed, acne-prone and sun damaged skin.

• Rich in GLA's, (the active ingredient also found in evening primrose oil), hemp seed oil helps PMS.

• People suffering from Eczema, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Cardiovascular Disease have found that the properties in hemp seed oil have helped to reduce their ailments.

• Hemp oil can also be taken on a daily basis for general well-being (1-3 teaspoons daily) and can also be used in salad dressing or for a wide variety of other food preparations.

Important: Hemp seed oil should not be heated because this dramatically reduces its beneficial effects.

Thumbs up

You are quite welcome Sir. Thank You For your kind words.
As you have probably noticed, I enjoy doing what I do, researching and posting relevent information.
It keeps me out of trouble.
.............................. .............................. .............................. .........

I'd like to bring these questions forward again where there not lost in the text...

What brand Vaporizers are people using and recommending?

What is the best and simplest way to go about it (making a Vaporizer?), if on a budget?

Whats the best unit out there, price be damned?

And a new question...

How does one prepare Cannabis for use with a Vaporizer?

I hereby submit the topic of
" How To Use Medical Marijuana"
to the group for their collective perusal & further discussion.
