Talking DGS Sweet C99 run

Well this will be my first online journal (long time reader recent participator) from seed and I thought sharing it with everyone could be fun and at least possibly help fellow growers compare and or learn from each others SC99s. Not to mention DG may or may not pop around with words of encouragement!

My ultimate goal with this run is to find an awesome female for an 8 week SOG perpetual grow and clone off her for a very long time!

By no means are my methods preached or perfected... I pretty much just go with the flow and stick to basics that make sense to me. I don't care if you disagree but if you have a genuine question or suggestion that will not lead to debate I will share MY logic with ya no problem!

Ordered 1 pack of SC99 and 3 Legends Mountain Mix from the bou 7 days ago including weekend and it already made it Californee way today. All 10 SC99 look great. Had 1 crushed MM out of 30 :( (I did notice one GIANT bean in each of these packs that look totally badass).

Pinch test was fine as expected. Seems to be 2 noticable sizes of beans, larger with more tiger stripes and smaller ones that are darker and have less stripes, any comments on that?

Just gonna pop em in a little container with some RO watered paper towels in the warmth of the veg room 75-85*F constant lower 25-40% RH season pending (has never caused problems with all 7 or so strains I have ran but I have had to help the seed/membrane off a lot of the older beans I have popped, not the newer ones).

From there I will go straight to happy frog soil in cups then 2-3 gallon containers once they are big enough then I wait for sex to show under a 400w hps with 24/0 light. This is my first time straight to soil, decided to skip peat pellets. More crap to buy and worry about!

Once sex shows they will be cloned and added into my perpetual ebb&flow garden! At that time I will make the decision to collect pollen or not as I have other projects (SWT#3/BH/LUI) that should be ready to start around then. Might get some LUI13 down the line too. I will probably share a lil eye candy from my 3/5 viable Blockheads from GN seed too, maybe make a separate journal in Koot's neck of the woods on here I dono yet, one journal at a time for now.

They were germed tonight around 4:20, call me silly I don't care helps me remember when to check em the next dayhehe.

Hope it isn't against the rules to reserve some posts on my thread for the future updates and organization. Sorry for the phone quality pics but I will definitely have a better camera soon.

some blockhead stuff

5-12

40 hours after being thrown into germ they are all ready enough to pop into happy frog soil. 10/10 germ rate most with great big roots. Tried using gravity to help during germination and ended up with some very straight roots this time. I will probably use larger containers next time so I can line them all up side by side.

5 - 14

All 10 popped soil, two needed the helmet/membrane removed the rest were fine. This time I put them deep in there and packed the soil on top a little harder and I seemed to have had less trouble with newborn surgery.

I am going to share a little tip that I found out by accident on how to get really straight seedling tails. Take a container like a DVD case (you could totally improvise many other things laying around the house) that can securely seal things up and keep light out.

Place all the seedlings so the tip that will sprout the root ends up facing straight down. You are going to put the dvd flat up against a wall so the end that sprouts the roots will face the floor.

The pic on the left is at 24 hours. 5 Power Kush at the top, 3 original LUI in the middle and 10 GN LUI on the bottom. Notice the same tip is pointing down on all the beans, when against the wall these sprouts are all facing the floor.

I use 1 paper towel square and fold one half over the other half with the beans in the middle, then I put another paper towel over that and gently form the wet paper towels over the beans so they stay in place while they take the journey to sit up on the wall, the extra weight of another paper towel helps too. Be very very gentle here because once you put it up on the wall you are not to check them for at least 24 hours.

If are you totally confident that your wet paper towel forming skills are on the ball that day I suggest waiting 48-60 hours, that seems to be when most of my viable seeds will be ready to hit their new homes.

At this point I use happy frog soil in 16 oz cups pre watered with straight RO water at 6.5-6.7pH. Of course you could also go in to any media. I see how this could make using rockwool MUCH easier with seedlings. I use a pencil or pen or toothpick to make a perfect hole about 1-2" deep for the large tail and helmet then cover with about 1/4" of soil loosely. They always pop the soil within 24 hours, at that point so if you don't see them by then gently check and see with a toothpick to see if the soil is pressed too hard just above where you planted the seedling or you planted it too deep. I seem to do this to a couple each batch so far. I would say that I have to remove about 5-10% of their helmets so far.

About 5-7 days in there (I prefer to go with 2-3 waterings) the roots are generally ready to blow up so I put them in 1-1.5gal pots. I don't really have problems with temps. My temps have been up to 93 lately with a low of 73 and they all seem to grow pretty well with good air flow and ventilation. When I popped the SC99s my temps were in the 60-70 range and grew just fine too.

Interesting gravity method....nice straight tails for sure. How exactly did you accomplish this?

Nice varieties you have....lots of respect for Legends!

Sounds like you have your grow all planned out....all the best of luck to you!

Whatever way you can have your beans vertical works. In that lil container I put a cup over it and set the container vertical underneath sitting against the cup so it wouldn't fall. You can hang paper towels in plastic baggys from a string or probably duct tape it to a wall or against something warm like a monitor or what not.

Thanks....sure is time consuming for me to have to delicately place so many ringlets into rw cubes. Am going to give this
method a try next time.

These are stretching quite a bit! 5 days in the drinking cups and they were about 6" tall. I up potted them as deep as possible in 1gal pots and now theyre 4-6" above that soil line again in 3 days. This stretch is all below the cotyledon but growth above the coty is normal.

Is this expected? Is this the SWT kicking in and growing absolutely massive root systems causing it to stretch below the cotyledon? My c99 showed nowhere near that kind of vigor, in fact she was more of a branchy plant than one that grew tall. My other strains from seed have not stretched this much either (mostly indicas though). In cups they were under fluoro and now theyre under 24/7 400w HPS. Temps 80-85 humidity 35-45% no signs of distress at all, very healthy in fact. Not worried just wondering
